Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Did the fire take out the mountains too? Because the mountain range is different. If I didn’t know better, I’d say that it’s just the land from a different angle, and the buildings aren’t the same (i.e. one building wasn’t constructed upon the remains of the other, but that they’re separate buildings.)

No reason to think the shot is facing the same direction, and the bottom one clearly has the building much closer to the camera.

There are hills but behind fog. It is same place, just look at it. If there is some different range it can only be 25% different range bcs of new licence.

The 25% thing is a fallacy. And did the fire take out those castles in the background too?

Starfleet HQ rarely looks the same twice in Trek either.
Except in situations where stock footage is reused, and that sometimes results in people seen in the shots wearing the wrong uniforms.

Robert really had a problem with fire prevention. Not only did he refuse to have modern fire detecting and extinguishing technology on the vineyard, he forbid a fire department from operating within a very large radius around the vineyard.

I guess he had a problem with firefighter calendars?

It was a big fire, it took out 25% of the castles.

Retcon, anyone?

How about "It's a TV show and TPTB updated Chateaux Picard after 25-odd years"?

It's much easier if you don't put a ton of thought into these things. Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar.

Yes, we know. That’s why we’re pointing out that the visuals don’t need to be explained away with the fire explanation. ;)

Guys, Paris looks totally different in Discovery and TNG. The Enterprise 1701 looks totally different in TOS and DSC. Starfleet HQ is entirely different in TNG, the classic movies, the recent movies and now Picard.

Heck, Gotham city is totally different in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, and one's a direct sequel to the other!

It's a Vineyard in France. Close enough.

That is a cool comparison photo, @Caeruleus

In fairness, it would be hard to find a real set which was identical to a matte painting probably based on nowhere in particular.

It would be interesting if the accident was actually intentional... someone sabotaged the fire suppression system and set the place on fire... could've been Bok, I guess XD

Q created the fire that killed father and son, just to fuck with Q's favorite toy, Jean-Luc.
