That wasn’t my point. TATV inserted a daft holodeck subplot into “The Pegasus”. “Flashback” inserted Tuvok and a weird virus into TUC. This is nothing new for Star Trek.

At least this Borg virus subplot is somewhat relevant to the original plot of BOBW.

On the other hand, someone mentioned somewhere that referencing “Cause and Effect” and the significance of 3 in that episode would have been a better reference, which I suppose is true.
I hadn't actually considered the switchout when making a joke about it but yeah, the codeword could have been Bozeman that she used - although that may have been too easier to cross reference if anyone intercepted the message

I liked the dialogue in the Berman wra of tng, ds9, Voyager and enterprise. The creators understood Language dynamics and it showed the transition from enterprise to the shows further in the future. Yup

Needed more F bombs, that's the power of math.' and 'I like science.'

Jokes aside, I can't say I was a fan of Sir Patrick's 'Picard' dialogue in S1 and S2. He seemed very out of character. That seems fixed with 3x01. I've heard Picard will have more of a backbone this season and not be as passive as he was earlier. That makes me happy for Sir Patrick to end his character on this note.

The future, eh? How do we know how people will speak in the future?
Linguists. They track language and how it changes. Even now they say the English language here has changed much since this country was colonized by the British. So currently the US English language is different than England's. Language us like a living organism it constantly changes. The earlier shows had it right by bit including present day slang. Much more accurate.

It's a TV show.

And yet I can communicate with people from England. So it hasn't changed that much. I can say "wizard" and people will get it. I can use swear words and someone from the 1500s would get it.

There is some differences, but not as much.

When Trek tried to invent future slang we got "Way of Eden."

I actually like Shaw. I can definitely sympathize with him. I don't blame him one bit for being grumpy to Picard and Riker. I have EXACTLY the same attitude when some jackboots from Corporate come around my store. If anything, Shaw was nicer to Picard than I am to them!

And I'm sticking with my view that Shaw has every right to order Seven to go by her human name. He's the captain, and that gives him the right. When Seven has a ship of her own, she can call herself whatever the hell she "identifies" with. Until then? :censored:ing DEAL with it.

Sorry, no. Shaw can go fuck himself. If you don't respect a person's wishes enough to use their preferred name (or gender ID) then you have absolutely no respect for the individual themselves.

Think of it this way. You meet a man whose named Richard on his identification and birth certificate. However, when you meet, he says "Richard was my father and we didn't get along, please call me 'Dick'." Do you say, "Well, no. Your official name of record is 'Richard' and therefore that is what I'm going to call you because that's who you really are whether you want to accept it or not"? Of course not. That would be a dick move.

This is no different. Shaw is being a dick. He has shown nothing but disrespect for Seven since the moment they meant, whether he realizes or accepts it or not, and it is not cool or acceptable in any civilized setting.
