So i assume did not learn their lesson from Nemesis by allowing the actors too much control, and not that i am dumping on Nemesis, i mean that movie is now on Citizen Kane level compared to the mess the franchise has been in since its reboot in 2009. lol

Patrick Stewart wouldn't have come back otherwise. He's also an executive producer, I'm sure a condition of him returning, so yes that means he gets a certain amount of control over the character.

Trying too hard. Trying please all fans. This is Icarus in the making.

Maybe. Or maybe he really is just making the Trek that he likes the most. I mean if he loved the TOS movies and the music in the movies as he's stated, I could definitely get the sense from watching the episode. To me, it feels (so far) like enough to still exist in the same universe but still be its own thing.

Well i suppose the only good thing about how they make these tv shows now is that you can easily just dodge entire seasons and story arcs and it has no real impact on the ones you do watch.....so i suppose in a way everyone wins. Ha

Nothing after 2005 counts for me. It's awesome. Other people have even earlier years.

While there were some clunkers in both seasons, I disagree. I like the idea of what they were trying to do with seasons one and two of Picard. I honestly think you had to earn doing this season. But that’s just me.

Sure. My guess is that the plan was for each season to address a specific loose end with Picard. So S1 was all about AI that tied in with Data, S2 was about tying up loose ends with Q and the Borg and S3 will be the grand finale, one final TNG adventure that will wrap up the Picard arc. And if S1 and S2 had been better, that could have worked great. But while S1 and S2 had some good moments, S1 and S2 were a mess IMO. Since S1 and S2 were bad overall, the plan fell apart.

I was thinking the same thing. Tom Riker wouldn't want to be around Troi, because she would sense the truth about him. Beverly told Picard not to trust Starfleet, and I'm sure that that is going to come back around at some point.
Well Deanna is going to be in the show this season at some point.

I gave this an 8. It's good and solid but since its also mostly set up and I think the show has an opportunity to hit me with some 9s and 10s down the line. There is nothing I outright disliked about the episode. I paused and checked the time a few times because I didn't want the episode to end. Riker was great in it so I hope it's the real Riker. I already have the Titan theme stuck in my head. I love the TOS movie soundtracks so I absolutely loved the music in Spacedock.

So how does the inspection notification work? Did Picard and Riker just contact the Titan and tell them they were doing a surprise inspection? No notification from Starfleet expected. No one from the Titan mentions it to Starfleet command?

So just to respond to my own question here - I rewatched the shuttle scene and Riker mentions he had some sway with the Titan. So I take it as he asked Starfleet if he and Picard could conduct a surprise inspection of the Titan since that was his old ship
