Starfleet knew for a decade the Defiant would meet a bad end. The least they could have done was rename the ship for classified reasons and forbid any starship from using the name.

Pike kept his memory of his future and doesn't do anything to avert it like retire from Starfleet. A lot of Discovery doesn't make sense.

As far as the ibn Majid, I'm wondering who/what exactly killed its captain. He met a very violent end for Trek, which means he was killed by explodium (Trek bridges constantly explode in combat), or a Jem'Hadar, Klingon, or other ultra violent opponent.

The possibility exists that the attack was more widespread than Mars. Certain Starfleet vessels could have been using Synths as well that were used to attack those ships. Most of it was stopped before any real damage was done. Maybe what happened on the ibn Majid was so bad that Starfleet had to hide it from the public. Or, as I supposed earlier, it was some kind of ship ran by Synths.

There is the Temporal Prime Directive - and it probably came into being BECAUSE of the whole 'Red Angel' situation. Hell, DS9 showed there was a 'Temporal Investigation' section of Star Fleet and it had definitely existed since the 23rd century as they new all about Kirk, and considered him a temporal menace.

Gave it a 7. Same score as episode 2 but still below the 8 I gave the Pilot. Scores can go up or down depending on how the rest of the season goes.
Overall, I'm liking how the Romulans are portrayed, the acting and I do like they are using modern tv techniques (albeit with some peeves). I have some issues with the writing, the language and exucation. Still not at the heights of the best of TNG or quintessential DS9 but way ahead of the average bland alien of the week episodes of Voyager or Enterprise.

Remember when Picard was lecturing the rich guy from the twentieth century? It would seem that there are still people with enormous estates and others who live in quasi poverty. Maybe the rich guy was still rich after all and Picard was just pulling his leg.
