Star Trek peeves

And then Captain Janeway met an alien all the way on the other side of the galaxy who spoke English with a Belgian accent in "Prime Factors."
Kor

Well, aside from being a sybaritic son of a bitch, he adored chocolate. Imagine how he would have fallen head over heels for a chocolate pecan pie? For a couple of days, anyway.

I'll take their word over yours in this matter. I've looked them in the eye, and trust them to not lie to me.

And wow, responding to a post I made nearly three months (and fifteen pages!) ago to ride me with the "You posted, therefore you are wrong" bit. You must be bored.
Bored maybe, just reading through the thread. Not sure why it upsets you.

I served for 30 years both as enlisted and as an officer. Chose whom you want to believe, but you do not enlist as an officer - period.

Actually, almost every Picard we've ever seen has spoken with that accent. Jean-Luc, Robert, Marie, Rene, and Maurice (Jean-Luc's father) all did.

Jean-Luc's mother ("Where No One Has Gone Before") was the only one who did not.

That just adds to my pet peeve list.

Thank you.

The end.

A huge pet peeve of mine is how everyone always dresses up for the holodeck. Why the hell do these people, especially on VOY where resources are supposed to be limited, replicate actual period clothing just to wear them in the holodeck? Shouldn't they just use holographic clothes?

That could be very revealing in the event of a power loss or holodeck malfunction :D

- 2 dimensional thinking in battles etc.
To be fair, that happens all the time in sci-fi. Sometimes it's taken to ridiculous lengths, like in Star Wars when General Grievous's flagship practically "sinks" when it's taken out. Others, it's used to hilarious effect, like in Stargate when fighting the Ori everyone attacks them from in front or behind, while the Ori respond by attacking from above and below.

It's considered fun to see people walking around a futuristic spaceship's hallways in period dress.

I always assumed that it was impossible, or at least difficult, for the holodeck to create clothing, as it would need to move instantly as the wearer moved and perfectly fit to the changing contours of their bodies.

The holodeck also produces replicated objects as props- they just can't leave the holodeck. A changing room near the Arch should work fine.

I'm trying to think now - did we see the holodeck create someone who wasn't holographic themselves an outfit prior to First Contact? I'm trying to sell an idea in my head that the E-E holodecks were an upgrade and prior to that period costumes needed to be real to 'fit' properly.

Not exactly. That is, TATV does have the holodeck creating holographic outfits for Riker, be it a 22nd century Starfleet uniform, a MACO uniform and Chef's outfit. TATV is set before FC but it was made after.

Ok this is a peeve of mine from that universe. The Ori, for lots of reasons. Geez all they needed was southern accents, big hair, white patent leather shoes, and Kevin Bacon dancing y'all. But today let's go with that huge fuck-off fryalator beam that shoots STRAIGHT AHEAD OUT THE NOSE OF THE SHIP. I mean, in reality it would be good for exactly one attack, and then everyone would just keep nudging out of the path. You could automate your computer to do it. Now what can the Ori do? Or what happens when you park your Daedalus between two Ori ships? Do they turn and fire at you? If not, you could pelt them all day from right beside them.

1. TOS skirts, yeah I know it was the swinging 60's but even the pilot episode did not turn female crew into in ya face sex symbols.

2. TOS Starfleet was a Terrans only club, JTB was the most diverse episode on the ship.

3. Kirk's unhealthy obsession with a large metallic object called Enterprise.....he needed therapy.

The nuTrek bar scene, Pike wants Kirk to enlist in starfleet?

Officers don't enlist.

Same bar scene for me - Starfleet is a humanitarian armada (or something like that. Humanitarian!!!!! Talk about racism! No wonder TOS Spock was the only alien on the damn ship!

Edited after watching youtube clip - The Federation is a peacekeeping humanitarian armada.....yeah even worse

Another pet peeve of mine. Abrams couldn't tell the difference between the Federation and Starfleet?!
Again, not the first time that mistake's been made, though admittedly that is one of the more prominent and embarrassing examples of that mistake.

But like I said, the Ori attack their enemies from above and below, which no one in the Stargate verse ever anticipated.

Star Trek Voyager - in general! Basically Captain Wrongway and the 7 of 9 fan club! Don't know why it had more seasons than Enterprise which I think could have been the best 'Trek series ever.
