Star Trek passings

Lora Johnson, author of Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise, The Worlds of the Federation, and the Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Journal, along with several novels and self-published Trek fan works, has passed away, as reported by Michael Okuda and others.

Lots of fan stuff. I'll have to see if I still have her 2001 plans some place. Very sad. Mr. Scott's Guide was one of my favorite things ever.

This one hurts, man.

Without Lora's work specifically on Mr. Scott's Guide, I wouldn't have started tech drawing by the time I turned 10, which first inspired me to draw and understand the set plans of my favorite shows, which then led me down the path towards the artist I am today. She was hugely inspirational to me.

I remember buying and reading Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise back in the day. Devoured the thing. Fabulous piece of work. Quite enjoyed The Worlds of the Federation, and the Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Journal as well. I'm not really a Treknology guy, but all of those reached me.

Thank you and RIP.

I just ‘liked’ this post, but my intention was to post a sad face emoticon. Only I didn’t know how to do that.

Her books were a massive part of my childhood, I loved them to bits. I popped when I spotted a tiny reference in shield terminology from Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise on a display screen in Star Trek Into Darkness. I also loved more recently reading an old interview where she talked about her visit to the classic movie sets just after STIV wrapped revealing that the bar McCoy visits in III was a re-dress of sickbay which I somehow never spotted before. And that the dining booths in Mr Scott's Guide were actually part of the sets, presumably a holdover from Phase II but never seen.

This news saddens me.:weep: I enjoy Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise and still frequently reference it. I am a great fan of Lora's work, especially taking inspiration from her TMP-E and TMP-E-A deck plans and cross-sections.

Lora, like Thomas Sasser, had a long history of health problems. Here is hoping Bezos or someone else with means can help other artists. The individual behind Trekworks has left us—and the health of Federation Models’ owner is in doubt.

I assume you mean Lucan, which aired 1977-78 when he was in his twenties.

There are actors who portrayed kids when they were still kids, during your lifetime, who have died.

There's a few missing from that list, like Anyssa Jones, Buffy on Family Affair. I haven't researched her birth and death dates.

Everyone before Kristoff St. John was older than I am.

When I was doing my deeper dive on Ancient Trek Tech (that Lora worked on or not) I was a little surprised to see Larry's name on some of it. The guy was there.

Found this enjoyable interview with Lora on her experience in writing Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise:
