Star Trek passings

At a time when idiocy is rife and on the increase in this world with religious fanaticism, isolationism, climate change denial, political ignorance and bigotry this is personally devastating news. Boldy go Professor.

"Look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Be curious."

RIP to all.

Not an actor but Michael Piller passed away a few years ago. Great writer/producer. TNG show runner starting 3rd season and co-creator of DS9 and VOY.

To this day, is Stephen Hawking still the only one who played himself on Star Trek?

Implicitly, yes (although, technically, he played a holographic version of himself). There's also the case of the "Marine Sergeant" (played by non-actor 1st Sgt Joseph Naradzay) and the "Marine Lieutenant" (played by non-actor 1st Lt Donald W. Zautke) in Star Trek IV, probably meant to play themselves. And of course, the curious case of Maury Ginsberg (played by Maury Ginsberg), although the character is 30 years older than the actor (VOY was just being cute with names.

I know this list is mainly on actors/actresses passing away, but some key behind the scenes people should be noted.

Winrich Kolbe passed away in 2012. He was the most prolific director of the franchise behind David Livingston (Kolbe with 50 episodes, Livingston with 62), with episodes like TNG's "Where Silence Has Lease", "Darmok", "All Good Things...", and DS9's "THE HOMECOMING", "THE SIEGE", "BLOOD OATH", "OUR MAN BASHIR", and VOYAGER's "CARETAKER", "PHAGE", "EYE OF THE NEEDLE", "FACES", "RESISTANCE", "DRAGON'S TEETH", and ENTERPRISE's "SILENT ENEMY". He helped cast VOYAGER and helped push for a female captain during the casting process, and really helped give VOYAGER its look and feel during their first season.

He was 72.

As mentioned by Cyrus, Michael Piller passed away years ago, too. He contributed in a big way to the franchise.

Yes, these people SHOULD be mentioned and there are sources out there that are tracking them but I'm only interested in the actors since they are the only ones I've really seen and know of. If YOU want to track these other people, feel free to do so.

With the death of Ned Romero this past November, is Susan Howard the only surviving OS (speaking part) Klingon?

I never kept track of which actors had Klingon-speaking roles. Victor Lundin died in 2013 and he had the 1st klingon speaking role in TOS.

I met Vic here in Seattle in 1970 something and he told me he'd had the first speaking part. I'll have to go review the episode again. Are you sure?

It was reported that Tim O'Connor passed away April 5th, age of 90. He played Amb. Briam in TNG's episode 'The Perfect Mate'. 116 have now passed away from that series.

Oh that's too bad. He was all over from the '60 through the '80s, including one of the best of The Outer Limits, "Soldier" with Michael Ansara.

Yes, I too am old enough to have to seen Tim in many tv shows over the years. He seemed like a real nice person.

Joseph Campanella 2018, aged 93 UFP Arbitrator Star Trek Voyager episode: Author, Author

33 actors have passed that starred in 'Voyager'.

MIke Howden who played 2 characters in TOS died a while back. He played a Romulan and an Ent crewman.

Mark Tobin who had a speaking role in Dove -- is still alive.

Green, I've just visited two other Trek websites and neither mentions Howden's death, yet Imdb does. The Trek sites are usually more up to date with these postings while Imdb is usually not. Howden had a good run in the acting world and yet no one has reported his death to a Trek site. That's very odd. Did his family not want his death reported? or was he an actor long-forgotten since he retired from acting in 1979? There are many Trek actors who have simply disappeared from the public record. I wonder if he was one of them...... regardless, we've now lost 270 TOS actors..... by my count....

Do you know this actor? He is the only speaking part I can't identify!
He is one of the 2 guards that the kid distracts in front of Krako's HQ.
He says, "Sure is." LOL
I need this guy's name. He was in the Forbin Project and the TV series Untouchables but he usually didn't speak or get credit. HELP!!!
