Star Trek Original Series Set Tour

I just visited this place last week when on holilday. AMAZING doesn't even cover it. Loved the whole look and feel of the place. We were the only ones on the 10AM tour, so got a personal one. The chap who did it was great and knew his stuff. The attention to detail was fantastic. Highlight was being on the bridge. That's me now been on the Enterprise-D bridge at Las Vegas and now this one. Really good. Not much to do in Triconderoga town, so I recommend that you stay up in Lake Placid instead as its only 1hr away. The drive from Boston took just over 4hrs and we went past Queeche Gorge for a quick stop and Woodstock. The Engineering set, with the forced perspective Impulse drive was beautiful.

That, combined with seeing the original film model of the Enterprise in Washington, then the real Enterprise in New York made for a heck of a New England trip.

Do you need special dispensation or an upgraded tour level to sit in the chair? I can't imagine that everyone is allowed to do that.

I've been three times...twice normal tours and once with William Shatner (last spring) and it is as amazing as you'd expect, and more.

And, you bet your ass, I sat in that chair every single time!!

It actually was fairly comfortable! I don't think an eight hour shift would fly with them though!

Vger, your boys are simply adorable! Great pics. The one at the helm looks like he has the complete idea how to work the controls!

Did they shrink the size of the viewscreen, maybe to make room for that door to the starboard side? (Which I assume is for actual access to the set.)

I'm not sure about the view screen size. It might just be the angle the photo was taken at. It looked correct in person, but you're right, it looks a little small in this picture.

I think that "door" to the starboard has since been completed, and the set is fully enclosed. The access is now a corridor that leads from Engineering to the turbolift.

More great pics - thank you! I am so impressed with how they did the lighting in particular, among many other things. Engineering just looks fantastic!

The viewscreen does look small to me but maybe it's just an optical illusion (or it wasn't as big on the show as I'm thinking for some reason). Does anyone else have an opinion?

The viewscreen is of course a flat screen TV, and it isn't quite full-size because the price increase for going up to that diagonal was crazy. They just couldn't justify it at the time. At least, that's what I recall from a prior thread.

When the sets were in actual use for filming episodes, they used a full-size blank screen for fx added in post production, same as The Original Series.
