Personally I think it's less of a grind to level up a new toon and get any of those for free as my VA ship then to collect 500 emblems! But then I am an alt-oholic :D
Is there any choice you won't even get for emblems? Only the Gal-X, right?

Also, copy your toon over to Tribble server and test fly all teh different ships to make an informed decision. :)
 
Tonight's or actually tomorrow morning's scheduled maintenance will be for the Season 4 patch. 630am to 930am PDT.
 
FYI - If you have an existing KDF character - DO NOT enter the "Warrior's Hall" - or you'll be stuck with no way to get out (and that's assumimng the patch on Tribble now is what they're pushing tomorrow.)

Established Klingon characters can appear to get stuck in the Warrior’s Hall. You can fix this by talking to Sparring Master B’Elotja within the Warriors Hall just east of the fighting circle and accepting the mission “Lighting the Way” from her. This will re-activate the doorway back out to First City.

Except they've been saying that on Tribble for the last 3 builds - but it's not so - the "Leading the Way" mission is bugged; and if you go into the Warriors Hall and speak to Sparring Master B’Elotja she doesn't offer you anything except an Exit button to close her dialog box - it was STILL that way on the Tribble build (which I assume in the release candidate being puhed Live today)

So, again, (and unless they fixed it on a Triblle build we didn't see that's still beimng pushed today somehow); if you take your existing KDF character into the Warriors hall - you'll be trapped.
 
So how has everybody else fared with season 4.....its totally zonked my ability to even launch the game now.....either the launcher just sits there and crashes or it makes it to the new loading screen with the counter going up, then when it reaches 94 its a fatal error and back to dashboard.

So i really have no option but to wait as nothing i have done to find a fix, from a clean install, to older and news video card drivers, has solved these issues.

have you tried opening a support ticket and posting on the STO forum? Explain your problem there and post your computer specs. They might be able to help you with aworkaround or fix...
Is it crashing on a log in attempt on Holodeck and Tribble or just Holodeck?
 
I'm actually warming to it. I like the idea of the 2 necks. I like the 3D models they've made for it, but hated that render they tried out.

Only major problems I hope they address, the impulse engines and (what I'm assuming is) the shuttlebay doors are way too big IMO.

As a side note, would anybody else LOVE to see a Trek MMO be picked up by someone willing to try to out-do Bioware?
 
Took about 2 minutes to run into my first Season 4 bug: Going from your ship down to the transporter room to grab a shuttlecraft is pretty cool, but from the perspective of trying to do the Delta Flyer mission, it doesn't see you as actually in a shuttlecraft, so you can't get the data samples you need. Pretty lame...

Considering we don't know how well BioWare does with an actual MMO (SWToR is in beta - but we'll see how it does once released. Honestly, in reading it - they are pretty much doing World of Warcraft woith a Star Wars skin; and in ready the 'features' also borrowed some ideas for STO already. I'm honestly dissapointed in two things pre-release thought - only one ship type per Class; and no real 3D space combat - which fopr a game based on Star W ars in imo ludicrous. Sorry, a 2D 'Rail Shooter' style mini-game that can be skipped if the player so chooses isn't a 'space combat system'.)

BioWare's has done some decent stand alone RPGs; but that may or may not translate well for their first MMO.

I think Cryptic's done fairly well in respecting the Star Trek IP and creating an MMO around it; given the elements of the IP that atre anything but MMO friendly. I honestly thought you couldn't do an MMO based on Star Trek that would retain a Star Trek feel because of the nature of the Star Trek Universe. But, (and IMO) Cryptic proved me wrong.
 
Some of the new features are cool, but I'm not exactly thrilled that they nerfed all the shields I spent so much time collecting.
 
Keep in mind also that the main thing BioWare is doing that is "special" is "spending over a hundred million dollars". Nobody will spend that much on a Star Trek MMO; as niche as Star Wars is, we're even more so.
 
I'm so-so about the new stuff. Ground combat is a lot tougher now, simple missions in the Delta Volanis cluster that used to be a nice easy thing are now much more difficult, taking a lot of the fun out of them. Glad they sped up the firing rate on ground weapons, but it's one step forward, two steps back if you ask me. Shooter mode is fun, though.
 
Also, they put a timer on my grenades so I can't throw all of the different types in my satchel one right after another.
