Star Trek: Online

From the looks of that post it appears that the STFs are also getting new rewards too (I still need the last Borg component from Kitomer).

There also more variation in the earlier stuff than there was previously, with things like the diplomatic missions. Plus the remastering of the early stuff is making it less of a grind.

I'm not setup on Tribble, but I would love to see some screenshots of the new content. The updated Borg sound perfect... and better resolution? Can't wait to see that.

I'll also be testing on tribble as soon as the massive 3gig patch is downloaded (I disabled on demand patching as I heard it led to greatly extended loading times).

If there are enough of us on Tribble at the same time, I suggest we make a TrekBBS tribble testing fleet. :)

^The movement controls are exactly the same, so there's no difference there. The mode means you don't have to keep moving the camera around using the left or right mouse button - it maps directly to mouse movement, so it feels more like a third-person shooter. It's strange, because I've been playing Mass Effect 2 recently, and this new mode feels much more familiar than the RPG style (I kept getting annoyed at having to move the camera around the few times I switched back to RPG mode).

There are some minor drawbacks - it's harder to stay fixed on a single target, your BOffs sometimes get in the way, and you're sometimes swinging around wildly trying to find your next target. That said, there are also advantages, such as grenade throwing to space, a nice little range indicator on the reticle (which is especially useful when using sniper rifles, as the secondary fire can be used at much greater range), and it feels smooth and straightforward. That said, I don't know if I'd use it all the time - there seems to be less tactical thinking involved (I hardly used my powers, for example, although I was fighting enemies several levels below me, so that may have had an effect). Also, there were some issues in one of the missions I ran with targeting static mission objects - in this case, Borg shield generators in "Collateral Damage".

Borg thoughts - the weapon adaptation, and the frequency modulator are absolutely perfect. The lack of constant proto drone beam-ins means that I could focus on what targets were closest, without having to worry about the order in which I took them down. The medical drone seems surprisingly sprightly - it bounded across the field towards me...

I do like the new loading screens - the numerical display makes it easier to judge loading progress.

I am not looking forward to any 4 GB patch.

I might set myself up with a Tribble account. That's at least a 10 GB patch.

I haven't tried this lately, but:

Start the download. Let it progress for a minute or so.
Abort the download.
Copy the files from the Live directory to the Playtest directory.
Start the download back up.

It may reduce the amount of stuff to download.

Tried to get onto tribble today, but after i selected the character and tried to load, it went into server disconnect and booted me out. Did it a few times, then gave up...

sounds promising...

Now how about expanding the endgame content? Not good when you're to the point where even grinding the STFs doesn't get you anything new.

Supposedly (and I'm not kidding) DStahl has said Season 5 will focus on gettting more Endgame content in; and improving what Endgame content there is, as he wants players to continue to play and enjoy their max level characters.

Actually, if you're just signing up for Tribble, the game does exactly that automatically (IE gets what it can and copies it from your base STO install directly, then downloads the needed Tribble client changes.)

I signed up last night with Tribble. Once I had done that, I started the launcher, logged in, selected the Tribble option and it began patching about 6 GB of data. I just let that run for a couple of hours, then I was able to go in and try it out.

Hmm. Not sure I like the new Qo'noS. I had a hard enough time trying to remember where everything was on the old setup - now it sprawls out all over the place. I mean, I love the atmosphere, and the whole design - I just wish it didn't require me to rack my brains to remember where the BOff trainer is, or where I can exchange Emblems...

There is a new tutorial for getting to know the city and the street signs help a bit... still I wish it was circular like ESD So you always find what yo are looking for just by running ahead in either direction.

Sorry to hear that. But I recommend testing out Season 4, cause there will be a lot of changes that might compell you to play it more.
So either wait to drop it or resubscribe when it's released.
Teh good thing is your whole account will stay even if you take a break and no progress lost.
