Thoughts:

Having dealt extensively with two French companies now, I say "bring on the Chinese".

Runic has produced one of my all-time favorite games, and when they got bought out by Perfect World, they saw a huge investment and did NOT see a ton of interference.

As for the speculation that this means STO will go Free to Play; the only person who mentioned F2P in the press release was the Atari rep, not the PW rep, and CO and Neverwinter are both free to play, so nothing's been said about STO changing other than Dan's not-long-ago statements that it's making a hefty profit with its current model. Maybe STO will go F2P at some point, maybe it's even already planned, but nobody's said anything that indicates that's happening yet.

Cryptic has posted the first Enterprise Design Diary entry.
http://www.startrekonline.com/node/2466

My thoughts (as posted on the STO forum:
"The original winning sketch was just that... a sketch.
That's one reason why it was chosen. As a design it could be actually worked with, tweak it and change it as necessary without losing the original intent. Something the other more finished design entrys did not permit.
Would Adam have continued to design the final product himself, you bet it would have undergone several more changes in details, proportions, etc...

The new new 3d model is basically the same... a sketch, just digital.
It's the base they will start refining.
They will experiment with the shapes and details until they find the final design in the general idea.
it will still incorporate the basic idea and intent from the first sketch and yet show changes at the same time.

So I won't make the same mistake twice, to assume that the next Enterprise looks 100% like what I just saw. It will take and retain the best aspects of it and turn them into something awesome.
I don't believe they will f*** this up by introducing a Fuglyprise since this ship will pretty much DEFINE the game from it's introduction.
This is STO's contribution to the legacy of the Enterprise.
It may not strictly be canon now, but who says later designers for a possible TV show won't honor the design if turns out an awesome ship."

Season 4 Tribble (Part 1) Notes: http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=218921

I loved this bit:

The Borg have been updated:
Borg now adapt to your weapons on a per-player, by energy type basis.
Use a new Frequency Remodulator to clear Borg adaptation to your ground weapons (or fight hand-to-hand).
The Frequency Modulator is available in your ship replicator
Borg assimilation applies a long-term debuff that can cause you to become assimilated, in which case your character becomes a Borg drone and starts attacking allies on its own.
Borg now have shields by default, except for the ensign-level drones.
Borg neural suppressant hold duration and chance has been reduced.
Assimilation no longer causes random holds.

And shortly after they had the first Season 4 partail test build up on the Tribble test server; they found a major database issue; and are having to roll back the Tribble Test enviroment to the pre-Season 4 build.

Link to bad news here (Link)

But, this is EXACTLY what the Tribble test server enviroment is for - better they find the problem there, then on a Live/Holodeck server rollout. They hope to have the issue fixed and the Season 4 build back on the Tribble test server early next week.

Yeah, apparently Tuesday... along with the tractor beam and photon torpedoes I guess.... :D

Played some Commander level PvP yesterday in a small mostly fleet team.
It was reasonably fun, considering I don't really like PvP.
But in small doses with the right people it's really alright.
And twice other players learned yesterday the lesson "Don't mess with TrekBBS Armada."

Yeah, that was fun, but I can't see how people do that all the time. Probably would have helped if I was geared up towards that a little more. Been focused on other areas, and am almost done with CDR levels, so not bothering to go get better gear, knowing it'll be obsolete in a couple more levels...

To any STO players interested: The first Season 4 patch is up on the Tribble Test server (for testing of course):)

If you have on demand patching disabled and were patched to the latest Pre-Season 4 Tribble STO client; the patch is about 4 Gigabytes.;)

They were not joking when they said the resolution was 4 times higher. I mean at full setting it's just stunning.

I love the new ground combat and The First City is a sight to behold. I love the orbiting shipyard as well.

Mine's patching at home right now, whilst I'm here in work. Very much looking forward to testing the new ground combat out this afternoon. I should probably transfer my KDF toon to Tribble as well, so I can check out the new Qo'noS.

Also, I need to buy up some slots whilst the sale is still on...

Going to have a go on Tribble tonight (finally signed-up!). Sounds like I need to start the patching now though!

sounds promising...

Now how about expanding the endgame content? Not good when you're to the point where even grinding the STFs doesn't get you anything new. Can start another toon and go from the beginning again, but then you get a ton of the 'fight 5 bad guys' or 'scan 3 signals, then 2 more, then 2 more' missions again. Plus they want you to pay if you use more than a couple toon slots (the sorts of things that probably should be expanded for free for lifetime members, or even veterans over a certain number of days. Let's face it, if you've gotten a 400 or 500 day award, it's NOT through playing one toon, or even just a couple. Simply not enough game to accomplish that, so they should make allowances for that rather than charging you)
