For this thread I am speaking rather out of ignorance since I haven't actually played Star Trek Online yet, but hope to in the near future once my income is sufficient. Most of my information comes from websites relating to it (eg. Wikia).

As far as I know, you can play as either the Federation or the Klingon faction, which seems rather limited. Within these two factions, you can be one of the following races (besides one you created:alienblush:):

    Federation:
Andorian, Bajoran, Benzite, Betazoid, Bolian :bolian:, Human :), Saurian, (Joined) Trill, Vulcan :vulcan:, Ferengi, Klingon :klingon:, Tellarite, Pakled (WTF?!:wtf:), Caitian, Rigelian, Liberated Borg

    Klingon:
Gorn, Klingon :klingon:, Lethean, Nausicaan, Orion, Joined Trill, Liberated Borg

As for playable factions, I feel that there should be more freedom of choice here. For example I think that the Romulans:rommie:, Cardassians :cardie: and Breen should be playable factions. However I don't think the Borg :borg: should be one, since in the Collective there isn't much opportunity for career advancement. I also don't think the Undine or Iconians should be playable factions since they are too powerful.

As for races, here are some which I think should be playable, and some of which I'm surprised Cryptic missed out:

    Deltan,
    Efrosian,
    Arkenite,
    Napean,
    Takaran,
    Xenexian,
    Hermat,
Gallamite (the aliens with transparent craniums)
    Katarian,
    Grazarite,
    Tamarian,
    Selay,
    Antican,
    Xindi,
    Brikar,
    Kasheetan,
    Betelgeusian,
    Boslic,
    Selenean

I also think the possibility of non-humanoid characters should be a viable one. Here are some I would add:

    Nasat,
    S'ti'ach,
    Horta,
    Pakhwa-tanh

I also think the possibility of adding Gorn and Orion to the Federation faction should be possible, as well as being able to create female Letheans, Gorn and Nausicaans.

    What do you think?

Well thank you for starting another STO thread!!! I love talking about the game since I can't access the real STo forums here at work! :)

Anyhow, to answer the question, it will probably be the Romulans for sure as the next playable faction. But that will be down the road until they fleash out the Klingons some more. The one thing I don't like about the game is that they have made EVERYONE enemies of the Federation! Meaning, they are being attacked by all! So when they add a new faction, they will be at war with the Feds!

And as far as factions under a main faction, I am sure they will add more as the game goes along.

And if you wish to play the demo for free, let me know and I will email you an invite so you can check the game out!

I think they should focus their energies on making ground combat more fun. All of those species can be generated through the species creator.

    Non-humanoid characters... very interesting!

The alien creator lets you make a lot of the lesser Fed races. For example it has the parts to make Denobulans as well as many others.

EDIT Destructor, you are aware that the people who make the races and the people who would be working on ground combat are different...right?

On the major governments side of things, I think that the Romulans, Cardassians, and Breen should definitely be made playable down the line, and would like to see the Tholians, non-KDF Gorn and Orions, and Tzenkethi. Ferengi, too, if they can make playing as them interesting enough.

I hope that at some point Cryptic adds in subfactions and non-aligned factions - I'm thinking along the lines of pirates, separatists and dissidents, espionage agencies such as Section 31, members of Federation species that are independent of the Federation, etc. Also included here might be different agencies to work for, such as the Vulcan Science Academy, Daystrom Institute, etc. and the possibility of being a free-agent civilian.

Good idea. But I hope when independent and sub-factions ever get introduced, that no one will honesty expect big mission content for them. At best I can see a selection of existing missions be adapted for them if it's one not to Starfleet or KDF centric.
Otherwise I can see those as PvP factions, or trading factions, which I can't see as very intersting.
Although a Ferengi Trading Alliance could of course be a driving force on the Exchange and sort of a PvP Trade Market. You're looking for a special item, that can't be bought any other way? Look for a Ferengi player to rip you off, but less expensive than on the Exchange. ;)

I would actually like a faction about Merchants/rogues/Pirates and traders! There should be a race that moves and transports cargo. It can't all be about war! Heck, I'd love to command a Transport Tug!
