Star Trek online - Trek BBS fleet - Final Announcement

Awesome Trek, I'll, standing by. Gebirg, I do believe those glitches are now being referred to as "features"! LOL!
Also all, by the way, as we are no longer affiliated with this site I'd like to remind you all that the armada does have its own website along with forums. Please take a moment to swing by, sign up and have a look around. You'll be able to see some of the 8th's history you and can make a post there. Going forward we'd like to try and direct all former thread traffic there as that is our official site now. As a reminder here's a link directly to our forums. https://8thwingtactical.shivtr.com/forums

Beware that (at least on Xbox) the new "Into the Breach" Event TFO is immensely buggy, crashing out if you have another account logged in before logging into your account. Make sure the first one is closed before starting into it. If you don't, the game will immediately crash to desktop upon starting the TFO and there is less than a 10% chance you will be sent directly into it after restarting. 90% chance that it will put you back in normal space, AND earning you a bullshit 30-minute "early-leave penalty" where you can't attempt to restart that or any other TFO queue. Quite absurd. There are multiple threads about this in the Arc Games forum who, as usual, don't seem to be doing much about it. When you do get to play that TFO, the strange variable speeds going down the initial Zaxxon trench make it quite difficult to maneuver. It's also fairly easy to get hung up in the tunnels and their entrances, which have a lip around the edge that your ship can easily get hooked on. Kind of a nail biter when you're trying to escape the exploding Voth city ship at the end. It feels like they really rushed this thing out without play-testing it adequately. It could have been a really cool op, but there emerged too many things that messed it up in general.

The PC had the very same issues and may still have them, i remember getting stuck on or in the ship many times, and respawning trapped in the trench, and i have no idea if any of it was fixed in the PC version.....i will have to give it a run and see.

I feel rather bad for all the console players, last few event updates have been huge disasters. ATM on PC our biggest issue is borg ground maps (newer ones) trapping players. lol

But Hey Hey all, Welcome Welcome! The 8th Wing is committed to helping and supporting veteran TrekBBS Members and we look forward to seeing all of you starside!

My main is kind of sideways in a friends fleet atm, but it’s good to have my TOS era refugee in the old fleet. I am an f2p player and I still prowess my meagre resources into building that star base.

Biggest problem in any fleet I land in is no bigger is ever on. I have spent nine years roughly playing a solo Star Trek game with a chat function.

You're more than welcome to join us in the 8th, we normally have at least a dozen players on at any given time. All I need is your captain@handle and I can send you a invite. We have several fully completed fleets.

When you think of everything the old TrekBBS fleet managed to do with such a casual approch, it was amazing, and even moreso when you consider most of the fleet were spread thin across so many time zones around the world, but even on casual that grind after so many year could eat into even the most ardent STO player, i still get cold sweats just typing STO grind. lol

Absolutely, While I wasn't part of the TrekBBS I do recall seeing TrekBBS flagged ships and its captains on every map all the time every day.

As for the grind, I wish game devs, publishers would realize that Engagement & Fun, not Grind & RNG, retains players and customers.

I just have to get on more and recruit somehow, recruiting in this doesn’t seem like in other MMOs sadly

Just chiming in here; I have two toons and I log in very infrequently - perhaps a handful of days a year. I have other priorities (family, work etc) and other games I play more often.
I'd love to join the fleet/armada so I have a place to hang my hat when I get the urge to play.

Some people actually dig the grind. Grind gets us achievements/trophies and perks. ;)

^^I think i would have stuck more to STO if they had allowed PC users to log into the console versions as i liked the idea of relaxing on the couch playing STO with a pad, but not to the extent or starting from scratch. lol

We have a fairly robust recruitment team/method in the 8th, you're more than welcome to join in if you want to. There's no requirement for members to recruit, however. Just to have fun and enjoy the game.

I totally understand Gebrig, and grinding for specific rewards is goals (like the accolade system which needs better presentation in the game) is something I don't have an issue with. In fact I wish I could get something like the little endeavor tracker to show me what accolades and perks I'm close to getting or pin to track.

Grinding to keep players engaged is where I object to grinding. Simply put, grinding should be a choice by the player, not a core mechanic of gameplay. lol

Not a problem Jedman, like Scout and many others in our system, real life comes first and we want our members to have fun playing games that make them happy (STO or anything else). We also have people or work, travel, serve, etc and have very limited time to play and we can flag you on the roster so you don't get pruned when the rosters get cleaned up.

agreed, I wouldn't mind putting STO over to the TV play on on the touch too. I think cryptic should support cross play -- even if they most likely have no idea how to even begin programming it lol.

I can't figure out how to send messages through STO. Can you send me a DM on TBBS with instructions?
Thanks!

I can be reached or mailed in game (or PM'ed here) at @Azselendor from the toon you want invited and just include if your fed or kdf.

I've also created a temporary channel in game for requesting invites to the fleet and what not, just enter /channel_join TrekBBS into the chat line in game.

It’s characterName@playerName. At least, that’s the way it is for the Xbox.

It's the same on PC, characterName@playerName and sometimes characterName@playerName#1234 if the account is newer.

I should add that since my account is 12 years old I can't pm people yet on TrekBBS for some reason or edit my posts. LOL.... fml :wah:

@Jedman67 Invitation sent, should be waiting for you next time you sign in. As for messaging, you might need to review your social settings. I know some players have it locked down pretty tight.

I think it was because I created the account and I used to post down in the art forum my own takes/remakes/refits/etc on ships years and years ago (back when enterprise was new because I didn't care for the design style for the show). I had stopped posting at some point... Anyhoo, I guess the forum and site changed over to what is is now and my account was ported over and was just sitting idle so when TJ reached out to the 8th Wing Admiralty to bring TrekBBS in I reactivated the account and the system treated it as a new account.
