So Cryptic claims...
Basically the official reason for all those lockbox cashgrabs.
To keep ships that should not be generally accessible "rare".

Generally CBS has the final word on everything Cryptic does with their IP.

I guess it makes sense to keep ancient ships out of general circulation, kind of. But we have ships from the distant future and ancient weapons. Seems like a contrived standard.

Part of the reasoning is mainly to do with the constitution only....I suspect part of it at least was to do with the JJ films at the games launch tbh. That and originally 'old' ships were part of the game, but not really as endgame content...that peaked chronologically in line with the shows (slight fudge for the galaxy dreadnought, but that was canonically a future ship anyway.) as you hit the then top rank. That all changed later, so as to how that and license renegotiation affects things is anybodies guess...I do dislike the 'rare' ships level of scarcity to joe bloggs, but maybe that's something that may change.

That 'rare' reasoning was also the one given for the very first RNG box (the T5 Bug Ship) way back during the very first Winter Event in 2011.

One of the devs said CBS didn't want cryptic selling alien ships directly out of the store.

I guess it also applies to alternate reality (Mirror Universe/Kelvin Timeline) and Future Ships (Wells Class)

I wonder how they were able to to get away with the 26th and 31st Century Ships with Agents of Yesterday though.

Speaking of the Wells, I hope that is the next Lockbox ship to get the T6 treatment in the Infinity Box.

I got one after opening ~160 R&D packs. Still not sure if it was worth it, but it is a beautiful ship.
Good for you although I do not know that I want to buy that much Zen.
Might gut what I have already.
Edit: I did see the 2.5Giga EC for T6 prime Connie. Will devote Xen for 10 boxes and quit. Do not play enough to go through 100+ Boxes, although replscing my T1 Connie would likely make me play more often.

Hoo boy. The sale they're running got me. Just dropped like $40 on the T5 Defiant Tactical Escort Retrofit (for the Cloak) and the T6 Valiant Escort. Now at level 60 and just finishing the Romulan storyline. Oops.

I tried for a T6 Connie last year, probably put $60-80 into the effort. I got nothing. It's one of the reasons I don't play the game much anymore.

It's a little sleazy. I don't gamble on boxes anymore. I do spend money in the game, sometimes quite a bit. But I only spend it on things I can buy outright, like ships and uniforms.

I'd rather buy a ship outright then go for the lock boxes. But I haven't brought in a new ship in months, as I have enough ships and not playing as much as I use too. Lately I'm just logging on to do flying high so I can get another ship.
