Another lovely tweak to the anniversary "celebration". The new "run all over the damned place" event is a pain in the ass. Even when half the locations aren't bugged, making them impossible to complete. Anyone know if the completion works like the other recent ship events (i.e. only have to grind once on an alt versus having to do the whole 1000 pieces on every toon)? No way I can do this one more than one, and think the first may even be a challenge given the bugs...

Just don't get who thought this was going to be "fun" or contribute to celebration. Used to be something quick, or a fun mission, and then the reward. Now it's just as big a grind and time sink as anything.

Will say that the Dust to Dust mission was good, though. Just the daily that is annoying. Assume the Omega projects will go away when the event does? I've started collecting, but haven't run anything yet for those...

Yes, you only need to do it on one toon, then just once o your alts.

Dust to duts at least nets you 400 qmendations right of the bat. So it goes a bit faster than the ice race for example.
To complete the daily you don't even need to score any points at all. just start the minigame and wait till it finishes to complete the mission.

You don't also need to return to Q to turn it in.

If you want to play it seruiously fo the crafting game, it's best to use the mouse instead of the keyboard.
The minigame is actually pretty good. In essence a bit licke guitar hero.

If you get the Bajor space one, you need to play the mission Crack in the Mirror. Devs placed the omega molecules accidentally on the wrong bajor space map.

I joined in time for the 5th anniversary and I've already spent what... £50 on it? I might've been overdoing it, frankly, but it's highly addicting!

I'm just curious to see if this will mean extra sectors in the Alpha Quadrant, considering we only have the Cardassian and Breen blocks there now. Going by the source map they used (from the book Star Charts), there's a column of blocks missing between Sirius and Beta Ursae/Alpha Trianguli.

Excellent. I had a couple hundred extra saved from last year, so should be able to get this one in.

And guess that's the reminder in general for all these events now that they removed the grind for alts on these event ships: if you have the time, do some of the grind on an alt anyway. Then next year, you're halfway done, and you won't ever miss anything. I'm always a year ahead on the winter and summer event ships, and had a decent jump on this year. Basically, just have a second toon do the Dust to Dust mission, and bank the 400 qmendations. Now next year, use that one to be the 'primary' for grinding, and when you do that mission, you've got 800 of the 1000 before you even get started. Then do it on your regular toon, and he's ready for the next time. I got bored during the winter one and did the grind on like 4 toons, so I'm good until like 2019 for Breen ships

Since DOFF assignments are sector dependent, I really hope they don't screw it up.

:guffaw: Let me hold my breath on that one. Based on what you've seen of their testing and QA process, what's your guess for the odds that this goes perfectly, and they don't screw it all up, and have to do several emergency patches? And even then, some things will be broken for good, and it'll be a month or so to get the basics working again.

Stupid little things, like for this anniversary event, putting the Bajor Space objectives in a mission instead of in the regular map. Things that would have come out in 30 seconds of QA or testing, but a week or so into this, still haven't fixed it. QA is not their strong suit, so the more drastic the change, the more you can guarantee that they will overlook a TON of implications to it that will take a while for them to sort out and fix. If they get to it, still plenty of obvious bugs that have survived 5 years now...

According to Tacofangs the quadrants are "squared off" with additional sectors added, however it won't be a huge amount. Here's additional comments from him:

Thanx for all the links Captain_Amasov! I am a bit of a map nerd (and a geographer by trade), so it's highly appreciated. I'll be flagging that discussion for my watch list. :)

That's really useful info, thanks for posting Captain_Amasov! This is a very interesting change for the game, I'm really looking forward to seeing how it goes.

Haha, intrinsical, that was bad timing. i saw you log on the second the server went down,

*shrugs* I have been rapidly loosing interest in STO since Delta Rising launched, so I have not kept track of server downtimes. It doesn't matter much since I only login to start R&D and duty officer projects. Anyway with the latest series of intentional changes and what I perceive to be outright lazy mistakes on Cryptic's part, I have decided to take a break from the game.

Thanks for the intel (again, lol).

I'm not so certain about the "reshuffling" of systems mentioned, but I suppose it's inevitable when some will be too close together after the walls come down. On the upside: making the three maps rectangular would mean a LOT of expansion for the beta quadrant to fill the upper right corner. If they keep all the current sector blocks where they are, it'd almost have to be doubled in size. Star Charts (and its follow-up Stellar Cartography) put most of these sectors as part of Romulan space, so it'll be interesting to see how they handle that, seeing as how the beta quadrant is already much larger than alpha as it is.

And let's not forget the odd placement of the Deferi sectors in the AQ... Good luck with that, devs.

That ship clearly has not enough antennas...

Unrelated:
I was originally planning on replacing my Bort with an Astika but I just can't part with that girl. The aesthetics are just too good and the bridge is still one of the top bridges in the entire game.
So I settled on keeping the Bort but turned her into a badass cannon broadsider with the new Vaadwaur emitter arrays.
