Does anyone have some helpfull tips to get me started again?

Character choice is a very personal thing - in VERY general terms, Tactical focuses on dps, Engineer on healing and Science on buffs and debuffs. In the end it's only part of the puzzle, your play style and ship and bridge officer powers can work with any captain type. Personally, I prefer Tac and Sci (the latter is very versatile and can be a lot of fun).

Ships: don't worry about it until you hit level 50/60. All the lower levels go by so quickly that you will not keep the ship for that level very long. Use them to try out different types, so that you know what you want by the time you hit end game. Although the game goes up to 60 now, I'd still consider 50 the point-of-choice, as the last 10 levels take a lot longer to complete and a lot of the end game stuff unlocks at 50.

Other tips:
  • Play through the new tutorial; it's actually interesting these days.
  • Don't forget about the duty officer system once you unlock it. It can be a great source of income while you're offline.
  • Find a fleet that's open to helping new(ish) players. Pick one that caters to your time zone if possible.
  • There is no such thing as "too much dilithium".
  • Have fun.

Thanks!! That should help a lot.
Right now though, appereantly I need to alter settings. The graphics have improved since I last played, it would seem, and I my videocard is out of date. So yeah, we'll see. :)

As for a fleet to socialize in game, you know we have our own board fleet.
The TrekBBS Armada or the House of TrekBBS if you choose KDF.

The Armada is a bit more active with more members and more resources.

While the chat can seem very quiet sometimes, if you have questions or need help someone is usually around to answer or help out.

Just give us notice of your charactername@handle for an invite and join our in game chat by typing: /channel_join TrekBBS Subspace Com into the chatbox

I forgot how addictive this game could be. I really need to get the feeling of the controls again though. Have some of them changed? I can't remember needing the right mouse button to fire weapons.

You don't... it works, but in space it's conveniently the spacebar (for energy weapons anyway)

During personal combat I ment, not in space. Can I use the spacebar during away missions as well? I'll try later on.

Not by default.

BTW, you might be unfamiliar with shooter mode they added around season 4 I believe?

if you are in shooter mode you can switch to RPG mode by pushing B on your keyboard.

Shooter mode basically is mouse aiming and shooting with mouse keys.

Personally I prefer RPG where you click buttons on your power tray.

Kinetic Magnet: a highly situational, but very satisfying, Intelligence power. Watch a Borg cube destroy itself? Yes please!

I just got a Benthan Assault Ship - and with in the 30 seconds - someone wanted to buy it from me. Yet to decide what I'll do with it. At the moment into my bank.

If you do sell it, list it on the exchange. People messaging you will try to low ball you compared to exchange prices.

^ I looked at the exchange pretty quickly once I got to ESD. The player invited me onto their bridge, and I declined. The decision for me - shall be which character gets it, either my engineer or tactical. Thinking engineer, as he is my main and currently doing the Dyson Sphere missions. Might do more pve missions, as I continue to build where I want to be.

Before I quite playing over a year ago, you had the daily Exploration missions, which were great for getting extra experience points and stuff. I noticed those aren't around anymore, but I can't figure out if they have been replaced by something.
You know, those "Explore Three Systems In The Hromi Cluster" things.

No, they have not been replaced. I miss them too, they were a fairly easy source of dilithium when combined with the Strange new world mission.

They saved the cluster doff missions for what it's worth.
You can find them at the nebulas near the borders where the clusters used to be.
Doing those clusters gets you the exploration accolades now.

I'll go look for them, thanks. :) I realised while playing two days ago I was doing an episode at the rank of lt. commander, while I was doing at commander with my old character last time. So I wouldn't mind some extra points.

Could you just patrol random systems?

There are patrols in 3 systems per sector (3 or 4 sectors per block), but you only unlock these as you progress through the main story and they're not repeatable AFAIR.
