^Yeah, but I went from occasionally getting down to 50% hull on my hybrid, to getting hull reduced to near zero VERY quickly on my Dauntless - as in, within a few seconds of starting a fight. Even got destroyed a few times in quick succession. ;) (This is playing both on Elite, and only one level difference - 54 to 55 - so it's not something I'd expected to find.) May also be I'm playing more like an Escort than a Sci ship...

Question for the more knowledgable players: I currently have a Narcine carrier and love it. She's got most of the gear that I want, and I'm looking to upgrade her pets. With that said, I like the standard Mobulai Frigates but am thinking of saving up for Elite Mobulai. Are there *other* Elite fighters that would be better for the ship? My ship is DPS heavy but with a focus on Sci boffs.

Information for veterans planing on upgrading a ship.
it may pay off to hold off on that.
there are reports from Tribble that there is a new veteran reward incoming with an upgrade token at 800 days.
it's not clear if it's per character or account.

I don't know any specifics about the Narcine or Mobulai frigates but since its a lockbox ship with ship-specific fighters, its a sure bet that Elite Mobulai frigates are way better than any of the common elite fighters.

Usually, an upgrade token is given to each veteran character that reaches a certain level. And its too late anyway, I've already upgraded all my ships. :(

Thanks for the guidance as always. I wanted to be sure of the options available before devoting a huge amount of resources to it.

I'm glad you all are digging the new "xpac" content, but speaking as a Veteran Gold player, I feel like this game became a grindfest when F2P started and the last Summer event on Risa is what made me stop playing.

Is there any sign of a new game play structure or is the game still really bogged down with Heavy Dilithium requirements? & Zen Purchases? Did they ever fix crafting? I admit to enjoying a play through the FEs but honestly, once that content gets played, I struggle to find things to do that aren't grind-y.

Not trying to be a downer, I'm happy there's new content, and I'm sure I'll come back in a year or two and spend a bunch of my free zen I'll have accumulated, but yeah I really wanted this to develop into a different kind of Star Trek Online game, and I don't think this was it.

    I have an odd question.

Ever since the update for Delta Rising, my body armor does not show up anymore on any of my characters' bodies. I have the armor equipped though. The only exception is my Environmental Suit, which does show up. Nothing else shows though.

But I don't think the armor is working because I am suddenly getting destroyed whenever I play a ground mission even though I have like level 9 armor. I tried switching it from Show Visuals to Do Not Show Visuals, but nothing helps.

Anyone else have this happen and if so what did you do?

I tried rebooting the game, updating, restarting my PC, taking armor on and off, but nothing works.

All armor and kit visuals have been put into the tailor and are not linked to the gear piece anymore with the exception of the EV suits.
You might still need the armor or the set to unlock the tailor option, but after that you can wear MACO costume and have a Delta Operative armor on for example.

What do you mean level 9 armor? You mean a Mk IX?

What level are you and what content are you playing?

If you are doing endgame content and wear Mk IX armor that pretty much explains why you get massacred... current endgame is balanced for Mk XII+ gear.

Oh okay, thank you! I thought it was a bug or something. Good to know it's not supposed to be showing up.

I'm no longer getting massacred, I realized what I was doing wrong for the particular mission I was on.

I was playing a level 40 mission with a Mk IX, yes.

    Anyway it's okay now.

So if I want the armor to actually appear, I would need to go to the tailor, correct?

    Thanks!

Wait. So, the armor has to visually be onscreen in order to be working?

I'm using the Dyson ground set and haven't used the tailor unlock option for the armor.

I have a question for some of the other posters: If the DPS counters don't work (well, at least they don't work for me) since I understand they may go against the developer's rules, what is an 'easy' way to calculate how much damage a toon is doing?

    ***

On another note, I was playing a ground mission on Nukara Prime....while listening to Ambrosia's "That's How Much I Feel." It was a bit epic hearing the firefight going on while classic music was playing.

A bit of FallOut and Martin Scorsese....

The correct command to type into the chat bar is "/combatlog 1" and not "combatlog 1". Don't forget the slash "/" character or no combat log will be generated.

Actually, the only reason why the game has a command to generate a combat log file is because this is the developer's approved way of measuring your character/ship's actual combat performance. I'll admit it may not be the easiest thing to get working, but it gets easier once you get the hang of it.

As for an easy way to measure dps, you can ask me or any other player who has managed to get CombatLogReader working to "parse your dps" for you. For example, you may have seen some players saying things like this after an STF:

That's CombatLogReader reporting on the total amount of damage each player has dealt, and their respective dps. Of course, if you have CombatLogReader running, the program allows you to drill down and examine how each weapon has contributed to your total damage. That's what allows you to determine which weapon performs best in an actual combat situation.

Joel, no I think you only need to go to the tailor for it to show up if I understand correctly. However I think the armor will still be equipped as long as you have it set on your character.

If I'm wrong...I think Timelord will let us know! :D

    No that's it.
They basically divorced all the visuals from the stats.

Okay, I extracted the Combatlog Reader stuff to my PerfectWorld folder in the logs area. (I used the link from this forum: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1008301)

I go to Tau Dewa and just before I enter the Starbase 234 system, I type in /Combatlog 1...and nothing happened.

I enter the system and I did my battlegames with Starbase 237...

After leaving the system, I typed /combatlog 0...and got nothing...

I used the Combatlog Reader to try to find .log files in the PerfectWorld area. Nothing. And even checking the Arc folder only gets me dated 'logs' which either have 0 or 1 KB in them.

    I don't know...

    Awesome...;)

I might be wrong about this, but I think you might start the log once you are in system, not before.

I was wondering about that as well...;)

    I'll give it a shot....

EDIT: No dice - as they used to say in the 50s/60s - even when I do the combatlog in the system.

/combatlog 1 just turns on combat logging for your current gaming session, so typing it once every time you start playing is enough to log every single shot you fire (both ground and space) for the entire session.

I'm not sure why you cannot find the log file. Perhaps you have several different copies of STO installed? I know I have at least 7 or 8 different copies of the game... I have the old stand alone launcher (itself has 3 versions... Live, Beta and Playtest), the Arc launcher (honestly I don't know where it installed its version of STO), and finally I recently installed the Steam version of the stand alone launcher (also containing Live, Beta and Playtest versions). So depending on which version of the game you launch, the log file is in a different folder.

I believe its a matter of finding the right version of the game client. You'll know its the correct folder when it contains some of these files:
    Clientservercomm.log
    CombatLog.log
    Crash.log
    Netcrc.log
    Objectlog.log
    Overlappingregions.log
    Pcl.log
    Shutdown.log
    Vivox.log
    Voicechat.log

learned a work-around today for disappearing tray powers and it seemed to hold up.

Set up your tray in space, switch ships (which will save the tray) and then switch back a moment later.

All tray powers should now stay where they are.

Waiting for the server to come back to see if this holds still after a restart.
