Well, the sale is here, so after listening to your advices, a bit of soul searching, hesitating, and choosing between the Resolute, the Presidio and the Arbiter, I chose the last one. I'm very happy with my purchase too! :)

The "fugly" problem was quickly solved, because it turned out I had access to Avenger skin, so I dressed her to be beautiful. Yay! :D

Well, I was able to get past the part I was having trouble with, although I think that was mainly because I ran into a different ship. I did shift my power settings on the side menu, and it seemed to help. I did have a little bit of trouble finding the right settings that gave me a good balance of power though.
But once I got through the stuff on the Klingon base, I ran into another Raptor Escort that killed me about 7 or 8 times in less than 20 minutes.

if you need help, give me a shout in game when you see me, and we set you up properly with a good basic build. :)

Sounds like the Raptor managed to punch through one of your shields. You need to shore up your shielding on that facing or turn your ship so the raptor can't keep attacking the same side.

Also, be sure your equipment is up to date. It makes that difference between being that random Excelsior that dies first in the show, or being the Lakota with her ablative armour and quantum torpedoes, so to speak. You'll need to refit a whole lot more often than the Enterprise did. ;)

Well, part of the problem I kept running into was the game kept popping me up right in front of the Raptor, so I wasn't getting enough time to set thing up for the fight. But even when I backed away out of range of the Raptor and was able to change my power settings and make sure I had all of the best equitment, it still kicked my ass.

Honestly, equipment doesn't matter at your level. It is very possible to take down the raptor using only common (white) gear bought from ESD vendors.

There's a reason why I have been stressing bridge officer abilities, because they have pivotal importance in determining the outcome of all combat in the game. If you understand these abilities well, is smart at picking the right ones and know how and when to use them for maximum effectiveness, you can beat every PvE encounter in the game with inferior gear.

For example, Tactical Team. Its the first ability I usually activate when I start fighting. It ensures that the shield that faces the raptor is always at its strongest. So even if I am ambushed by a decloaking raptor, I won't be taken out by its alpha strike.

Guys, it is now time to buy one copy of every ship class sold on the exchange that you have the funds for. Each ship class you own will be one ship you unlock for the new Admirality System. Fleet and Mirror variants are considered a different class from its original. So for example you will have separate unlocks for the Defiant, Fleet Defiant and Mirror Defiant.

No, I refuse to go out of my way to pander to this new system.
the whole thing still sounds incredibly uninteresting to me. i barely can eminfd myself to slot a couple of doff missions anymore and this is just more of the same with a new new skin.

there is no entertainment value in this.

Prices of ships on the Exchange rocketed today. My friend was thinking about Mirror T'Varo. It was 650K EC yesterday, 5M today. I have a feeling it's related to that Admiralty thingy. I'm not even checking how much Galor is today (it was 270M yesterday).

Just checked, we hav 20 ships in the fleet bank. most of them some mirror ship, plus a few delta quadrant alien ships.

We are gonna have to think about how to distribute them fairly after the admirality system hits.

About the Fleet Bank... how does it work? Who puts things there? Who can take them out?

I checked a fleet bank of one of my fleets to see what was in there, but I'm not sure who puts things there and for what purpose, and I always forget to ask the wiser ones :)

Every fleet has their own policies with regards to the fleet bank.

For TrekBBS's Fed and KDF fleets, our policy is that the fleet bank is a resource for fleet members to draw upon. If you have an item you do not need, feel free to deposit it in the fleet bank for others to use. If you see an item in the fleet bank that you can use on your ship or crew, feel free to take it from the fleet bank.

We do have daily and weekly withdrawal limits to prevent anyone from clearing out the fleet banks in a short period of time, but its pretty much an honor system. We trust that the items you withdraw will be put to good use and not sold away for ec.

With the exception of the high Security vault. Only adjutants have permission to withdraw from there.
Here you find really valuable stuff like ships and lockbox consoles.
If you see something in there you need, just ask an we'll see what we can do.
So far the mirror ships didn't seem of much interest to people, but that is going to change, and it's good that we kept then. :)

OK downloaded Arc and my display name is johannadark.

In all my games I use the same name and character, and always play as female.

I noticed a button on Arc labeled "charge" I clicked on that and it said I can't do anything or buy a game till I do a tutorial. Can someone explain that? I thought Arc was just the front end of the game like Steam?

You need to download the STO client, that one will install the game and keep it updated.
once you run the game, you do the in-game tutorial. I have to assume that's what the message is referring to.

ARC is just the Perfect World game hub gateway.
Technically you can run STO without arc once it is installed, ythough it used to be you get exclusive give aways if you log in through arc at least once. Not sure if those promotions are still active.

STO client? Do you mean the game launcher? That's what is running right now and downloading the game for me. I had to turn off the PC last night so it's playing catch up with the download.....

Oh can I copy my game folder to my off site drive to avoid having to reinstall?

Just in case the game's resolution looks bad when you log in for the first time.

Make sure the game settings are at 100% display resolution. Sometimes the default is set at 50% to acommodate lower end machines.

You can change it with a slider or enter the following chat command: /render_scale 1
