OK do we have guilds and stuff here ?

My ship is the USS Delinda and character name is Johanna Darkwater

In the other thread I made in the gaming section someone mentioned something to do with TrekBBS..

I am just getting my head around ship controls and flying. The ground movement is awkward. Not like the other games I have where you can just walk and the camera just follows you. You have to hold down the right mouse button if you turn. Or use W S A D. It's a little akward turning that way but I will get used to this..

OK I did the tutorial and now have to travel to Pollux. But in the Arc program it says I can't buy anything till I do a tutorial. I'm confused.

Sounds like you're only using RPG mode. You have two choices..

1) There's a Shooter mode that's designed to make the controls behave more like a first person shooter. You can press the "B" key to toggle between RPG and Shooter mode.

2) Within RPG mode, there's a "Toggle Mouse Look" command that lets you cam around using the mouse without the need to hold down the right mouse button. By default, this command is not bound to any key so you'll have to change your keybinds to get access to it. Personally, I bind Toggle Mouse Look to my right mouse click.

Oh ok cool did not know that. I'll look at the key bindings

Well, I got a PS4 on Monday, so I probably won't be playing much STO for while. I'm not giving it up, and I probably will work on it some more next week, but definitely not as much as I was.

Hey I made it back to the starbase.

I noticed there is a Lt. Shelby there but is that the same one from TNG who helps with fighting the Borg?

Hey guys is there a way to remove an item from the button bar? I just added something and didn't look close enough and now there's two functions on there that are the same..

This video tutorial might help a little. Its kinda old, so the icons have changed but the basics remain the same. At minute 1, they talk about ship power and how to change them. At minute 4, they talk about the power trays, how to change their look, how to move hotkeys around, etc...

And yes, the power tray has 3 different looks.

Look #1: This is the default look. It is simple and interesting to look at, but you only see your bridge officer abilities but not your personal captain's abilities and ship's special abilities.
Look #2: This is a hybrid between look #1 and #3. Some people like this look.
Look #3. This is the "advanced" power tray look, and also the one most MMO players are used to. You get to slot up to 40 abilities in any arrangement you like. You activate each ability using 0-9, Ctrl-0-9, Alt-0-9 and Shift-0-9 keys.

Right-click it and hold it, then move to outside of the bar.

You can move them around the bar the same way (right-click and hold) to suit your preference.

OK I shall try that and see how I go..

I wish I was on at the right time I never see anyone from here on there. You guys should pop by and say hello.

Good to see another Australian in the fleet. I'm kinder taking a break from the game until I'm settled in Melbourne. Might log on when season 11 starts, whenever that happens.

Its been two decades since I my graduate days as a computer science major. However, I do recognize that the Admirality System is a form of what we computer scientists call the knapsack problem. More formally, it is a bounded, 3-dimensional, multiple knapsack problem. Which implies that while it is a NP-Complete problem, there are efficient polynomial time algorithms that can find close-to-optimal solutions.

In English, it means we can probably write a small program to compute the best ships to send out on a set of missions. I wish I could write the algorithm, but I am woefully out of touch on specific solutions that can solve this class of algorithms. Can anyone here help me?
