Star Trek needs an Acronym

With the new movie, we have no easy way of distinguishing it from all other Treks.

With established usage of TOS, DS9, TNG, etc., I propose we call this new one TNT.

TNT for "The New Timeline".

No offense, but it's slowly getting to the point where we could almost establish a whole subforum dedicated to the sole purpose of finding an acronym for this movie, which in my opinion isn't even necessary. Star Trek doesn't need an acronym.

Well, to me, Star Trek by itself is the original 60's series. Yet we have to refer to it as TOS to make it clear what era we are discussing.

Calling the new one ST09 feels so, well, like a software revision. Windows 98? Windows 2000? Why not ST65 for TOS then?

Still pushing for TNT :)

BTW, to follow up, I think we need this because we have spawned much more than just a movie. I'm sure there will be more movies and novels based on this rebirth. Giving it an overall identifier clearly delineates what Star Trek we are talking about.

NuTrek seems to be somewhat popular and fit's in with with how many Folks are referring to other recent Reboot Franchises...

It's also the simplest but quite descriptive form...

TNT - a cable network
nuAnything - shades of condescension

ST09 or STXI are both fine.

When it gets a TV/Book series we will have one. As of now, it's just one movie. Star Trek or STXI.

I don't like STXI because we don't use numbers for any of the other movies too regularly and when we do it's an addendum like, STII-TWOK. I also don't like ST09 (although I've used it because I have nothing better yet) because in 2022 nobody will care what year the movie was made. Really, who can name the release date for all 11 films? I know there are probably some of you, but I think you get my point.

TNT is the best suggestion I've heard so far, but it is a cable network.

What about STR for 'Star Trek the Reboot' which is what non Trekies seem to be calling it and we do want to invite them in don't we?

I'm going with nuTrek. The term can also encompass subsequent productions in the same vein.

STXI is good because it refers back to the whole rest of the franchise. Search for Spock is always referred to as ST:III so it's not without precedent.

I think nuTrek refers to this timeline as it will hopefully manifest in ST:XII, a tv series and books. It's not specific to this movie unless this timeline stops here.

I'd like to see a book that takes place in both universes. A ship from the prime universe contacts a ship in the new universe via the black hole. That would be cool and it would sort of solidify this movie taking place in a separate reality.

ST09 is OK, though the first few times I saw it I thought it was referring to "Insurrection".
