I thought it was a cool idea to bring back McNeill as Locarno and it probably worked better than it had any right to. I didn't think his “master plan” made a lot of sense, especially with all the clues we had been given over the course of the season. I didn't buy Locarno as someone who would try to build this kind of fleet and I much less bought all those folks aligning with him. It was all kind of cartoony (wink, wink), but ultimately forgivable, because it made for a fun ride that felt special in terms of character development for Mariner. Will be interesting to see how they are writing her next season.

Robert Duncan McNeill must have had a blast.

According to the bonus material on the DVD set, he did.

Really well done. Lots of allusions to both ST and SW. The hide-and-seek in the nebula was straight out of TWOK, but the debris field was straight out of SW:TESB (or the original Star Tours), and all it needed was for Paramount to license the musical cue (not ever likely to happen).

And NOT a big end-of-season cliffhanger -- just a small one, over how Tendi gets back in Starfleet.

I happened to rewatch this episode last night, and if he hasn’t gotten the shout out he so richly deserves in this 14 page thread, I’m going to give him one now:

Chris Westlake did a stupendous job with the score for this episode.

The character themes and the callbacks to various theatrical scores were a delight, but the music that played over the end credits was nothing short of epic. If the audience was justifiably sad and worried for Tendi as her transport warped away from the Cerritos, Westlake’s powerful and bombastic score instantly put those fears to rest. His soaring music underlined that the Mistress of the Winter Constellations has got this.

I’m still dumbfounded Paramount is jettisoning this fantastic series, but man oh man I can’t wait to see Tendi kick some ass in the final season. I also can’t wait to hear what Chris Westlake has in store for us for the series grand finale. Bravo!

I just finished this one today, such a great episode. So many fun nods to previous Trek and other stuff. I could see nods to WOK, for one with the ships passing each other in that storm, even a nod to Titan A.E. with Mariner flying through an ice field.

Fun, fun episode and I might even watch it again
