Hmm, future guest appearance of Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shaloub, or Sam Rockwell???

Watched this episode again. I fucking roared at the overlapping speeches at the end of the episode. :guffaw:

I felt like this episode took two big swipes at Discovery with the acting captain bit. Discovery had made a big deal over who the acting captain is, but, Lower Decks just disregards it as unimportant.

Also the motivational speech. While these aren't new to Star Trek because we've seen past shows do them, Discovery, IMO, seems to do them the most and it's always about who and what Starfleet is.

One of my favorites of the season. Loved this episode so much.

if we’re talking about a long term acting captain, like Saru was, the position is pretty important. One that fills a few minutes between shifts isn’t.

An Andorian named "Jennifer", a Kzinti named "Taylor"...this is getting creepy to me. And yet, I don't know the characters' own context, so...?

Well Jennifer in S1 was an adlib by Tawny, the script didn't say what species the character was.

Maybe they're just rolling with it lmao.

The Saurian on DSC is named Linus and we've had absolutely no explanation as to why. It's probably just a play on that. :)

Which is the joke and how Lower Decks places zero importance on the role.

More about the guys who sit in the chair for a second until the real Captain or XO appear or even guys like Harry Kim who cover on third shift than anything on DISCO.

I thought it was a swipe at Voyager, and Harry Kim being night shift captain.

    Buddy the Vulcan
    Jennifer the Andorian
Taylor the Kzinti (or should that be Taylor the Kzin? Kzintaylor?)

I do love the naming of background characters in this show. In a multicultural society like Star Trek, where humans dominate it's very plausible we'd get aliens with human names and vice-versa.

Also, in some cases the human sounding names could just be abbreviations of longer alien sounding names. Like Jennifer could be short for Crajenniferelli Sh'Volin.

And names on Zeon in "Patterns of Force(TOS)" were often sci-fi variations on Hebrew names. Isok. Abrom. That episode really dialed into the Jewish and Holocaust allegories since it was dealing with actual Nazis contaminating an alien world.

Yep. It was as subtle as a punch to the face but it worked.
