Frakes and Sirtis are going to have a busy year doing voice acting.

Ian McDiarmid phoned in his lines for Palpatine's appearance towards the end of Rebels. He literally spoke over a speakerphone or another device and his lines were saved and used in the episode.
Now THAT is how you do a finale, a follow-up or sequel to older episodes/characters, et cetera - and while making it feel like its own thing. This show has been fairly rock solid from the start and the finale was oozing confidence and letting the viewer really enjoy the ride.
Eminently well-done, impressive, fantastic finale. The plot, characters, callbacks to the past, using ostensibly bad one-offs and bringing them back but knowing how to make them such a better threat... this story is magnificent.
Shame about Shaxs, should have been Ransom instead. Not every Trek needs a Kirk clone as a regular, even if Ramsey kicked his ass...
And the Exocomp had me worried from the start but by the end I could see why they brought it back. Yet another masterstroke.
It's the type of story that made me wish it was an hour long instead of half-hour.
And its the 2020s now. Due to certain world events, voice acting from one's own home (with studio-provided quality equipment) is becoming the industry standard.
And anxiety. Pains me to watch people refusing to get near each other, even in passing, out of fear.
And it's not ending, even with the vaccine readily available. We've developed a veritable culture of fear.

Not just that but that's the biggie. The vaccines do help but are not 100% effective, so the chance of still getting infection exists. Dying from it is still greatly reduced, so that's a start. A loose parallel might be someone who takes a pill that reduces the possibility of getting a harder-to-treat disease. Thanks to "superbug strains", that number is larger now than it was three decades ago and if people whine about medical costs now all while otherwise being cavalier about drugs because "it's treatable" and then going out to screw a bunch of people without informing them of what they've got and are spreading, but I digress: The pill reduces the possibility but not down to 0.0000000000% or smaller. Since covid is potentially faster-acting than some of those lovely STIs, nor is it "the flu" as often misconceived by many, a little legitimate fear isn't out of the equation, no?
Even more painful is supposedly adult people pitching hissy fits about having to wear a mask to protect themselves and others and spreading BS anti-vaxxer theories.

Finished rewatching Lower Decks tonight and I think one of the things that struck me about the finale was just how fun it was. I look at the various finales of Discovery and Picard and think the writers can't really stick the landing for their ending of arcs. Then I see Lower Decks, and they just went all out fun with it, from the consequences to the crew learning about Mariner and Freeman, to just the action with the Titan swooping in. Lower Decks isn't a show to take seriously, and yeah it might be the Family Guy of Star Trek but so what. It's an animated show set in the Star Trek universe. I was smiling ear to ear finally getting to see the Titan in action, and they could do it on Lower Decks because Frakes and Sirtis are getting up there in age and probably don't want to do another Trek show. The Animated Format is allowing Trek to pick up where Voyager left off in that era, and I think that could be exciting. There were a few episodes I didn't like (the first episode being the one I soured on the most) but it ended really strong with Varitas, Crisis Point (Which I really liked more on this rewatch) and No Small Parts.
I'm excited for season 2, and I do think of all the new Trek shows, Lower Decks had the strongest debut.

I’m rewatching it myself and yes, the series starts somewhat mediocre, with a lot of jokes not landing well, and gradually improve to reach excellency.
