Really? How many plots in TOS hinged on someone in Star fleet making an incorrect assumption? <--- How is that OTT to posit a CMO looking at data from a scan and coming to a different conclusion? That's part of my argument as to why II think it wasn't 'poorly written'; as one of his arguments hinges on the fact it's not realistic that anyone looking at Ash's medical; scan would miss signs hes a surgically altered Klingon unless they're incompetent.

Let's leave the Discovery and return to the Cerritos and a more civil conduct, shall we? Thank you. :)

I thought it picked up in the second half, but, yeah, the first half was kind of a chore. The mandala scene was the sort of whacky sitcom hijinx these postmodern comedy shows often mock. Mariner’s blatant insubordination during the yawning scene put me off as well. The show works best, IMO, when the humor comes organically from the characters, rather than when the characters act like imbeciles or jerks to serve the needs of the plot.

That's like judging Season 1 of TNG as great because of "Where No One Has Gone Before." In October or November of 1987.

I did. "Where No One..." sold me completely on TNG, even though there would be bumps in the road.

No. It's the opposite of that. With only four episodes, it's much easier to find the show's worst part.

I'm judging the show on what's been shown so far. And, so far, 58% of the show has been bad. The remaining 42% will keep me coming back. For now.

I agree that you don’t look very far. You have a pocket full of Ipse Dixit statements just waiting to be used. However, that’s not particularly interesting to me, anymore than ‘Data sucks’ or ‘Riker is rubbish’ and it’s certainly no more of a fact, just an opinion masquerading as one. With that said, I’ll do a better job of avoiding future examples.

Jeez, stop getting so personal. Is it really so hard not to talk about other poster's supposed intentions and just focus on the arguments they are presenting? Literally everyone here is “just” stating their opinion. No-one is seriously trying to pass them off as fact. It's a discussion board and the phrase “in my opinion” doesn't need to be added everytime someone states their opinion. So please stop this line of reasoning.

EDIT: @Crewman6, please try to avoid posting so many times in a row. Use the + Quote button on each post you want to comment on and combine them into one response. Let me know if you need help with that.

Wasn't that a fake trick used to fake break out of prison?

Yeah, it was generated by the collar that Eris the Vorta wore to help fake her "imprisonment." Or the collar was found to be just a useless shell with no working components. One or the other.

Either way the Vorta's psionic power was never again seen.

Well, yes, as I already said in my post - which I debate your characterisation of - I’ll do a better job of avoiding those terrible posts.

Anyone else find Mariner’s dig at the admiral’s speech impediment at the end a bit problematic?

A friend of mine is even calling it ableist.

But every episode isn’t out yet, for all you know a later episode will have something you hate more.

Who voiced The Admiral? His voice is so damn familiar and he's uncredited.

Speech impediment? I thought it was just a word he says in a weird way, just as a bad habid or dialect no-one ever dared to point out to him. Did you think Tuvok/Tim Russ had a speech impediment because he said “sens-oars”?

I just brought it up because a friend of mine thought it was ableist.

He said that it's still something many people who get laughed at because of similar problems face, and it’s shitty to turn into a joke.
