Gave it a 9.

For me....and I fully expect to be in quite a minority....this show ties all of Trek together and balances the whole. It has truly put everything into a new perspective for me and I am no longer bothered by elements of previous Trek, such as the times when I thought the politics was becoming too excessive, etc.

This show demonstrates that you can like both Boimler and Mariner....for different reasons.

Personally, I feel that the concept of IDIC is very much on display here.

And....Trek has not been this much fun since Jim Cromwell's wonderful portrayal of Zeff Cochrane in First Contact.

Has anyone called him 'Zeff'?

It fits.

There needs to be a cameo.

At the very least.

As my friend who was in the Navy once said, "The best way to survive is not to avert problems but to get them to the point they're not your problem."

:)
Any plot can be changed by prefacing it with "If..."
The more I think about it, I actually see little reason to think things would have played out much differently had Mariner not been there, except that Boimler would've likely had an even rougher time on the planet. Why should we believe K'orin wouldn't have simply drunk alone, brandished his d'k tahg and bullied Boimler into taking him wherever he wanted to go in any case? It seems to me that, rather than "screwing up" the mission, Mariner in fact saved it from going even further off the rails than it otherwise might have. (And, to boot, managed to turn it into a learning experience for Boimy Boy that he ultimately came through with his self-confidence bolstered, rather than feeling defeated despite all his meticulous preparation!)

The female Klingon they run into at the restaurant, actually sounds like she has prosthetic teeth in, which is a nice touch.

Reminds me of how the Duras sisters sounded in TNG.
