Star Trek/Legion of Super-Heroes coming!

Always enjoyed crossovers between comic book titles and between various Trek series, but between Trek and comic book superheroes ? No thanks.

It just does not fit and does not work. Remember the X-Men things ? Regardless of how well it is done, it's still not going to work.

That's a no for me then...

But for the lack of spandex and capes, are not characters such as Spock, Khan, Data, the EMH, Calhoun, Kes, Q, Worf, Kebron, Ilia, Troi, Apollo, McHenry, the Talosians, etc., superpowered superheroes and/or super villains?

I think it's a closer fit in this case. I'm no expert on the Legion, but I gather that they're basically an interspecies organization of do-gooders who use their species' innate abilities to preserve the peace. That's not so different from the "superpowered" characters Therin mentions in Trek -- supersmart, superstrong Vulcans and androids, telepathic Betazoids, shapeshifting Changelings, etc. And the creators of the LSH comics copied a lot from Star Trek. Just look at this picture of a Legion starship:

It's basically a cross between the Enterprise and a Klingon ship in shape, and it has a bridge, impulse and warp engines, and a transporter room. The creators of LSH comics have been cribbing from ST for a long time, so that lends some credibility to these comics' conceit that the LSH represents an alternate future of the ST universe -- at least for the purposes of this imaginary story.

...

On a regular basis, maybe not. But as an occasional novelty item, why not?

You are right about it being a better fit, but thinking about it I think I would have an issue with 'other franchise' crossovers generally, i.e Trek / Galactica or Trek / Dr Who...

My problem I suppose.

Several Doctors Who make cameos in the ST novel "Ishmael", and there have been several unlicensed satirical crossovers (fanfics, comics).

And many people have compared Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln, the guest characters of "Assignment Earth" (or would-be main characters of the backdoor pilot), as having a strong resemblance to a "Doctor Who" partnership.

Hmm. Aside the female Companion(s), I've always thought of Gary Seven as more of a riff on Klaatu from The Day the Earth Stood Still . . ..

The only era of Doctor Who that resembled "Assignment: Earth" in any way was the early-'70s period where the Doctor was exiled to Earth. But I think that was inspired by the Quatermass stories with elements of The Avengers and James Bond thrown in. It really isn't typical of Doctor Who as a whole. So it's really an odd comparison.

I never followed "Doctor Who" at all. Just a passing knowledge of its existence and premise. But I said "many people have compared..." - and they do - not that it was my own opinion or comparison. ;)

The Legion of Superheroes are pretty much what Christopher described, they're the closest superheroes that COULD logically fit within the Star Trek universe in a potential crossover given there are similarities between them. In both universes Earth is part of an interstellar political alliance. There is a Starfleet, there is a utopian type climate, although in the Legion time there has been strife and conflict thus the presence of the Legion. The only real differences are that there are superheroes in the Legion future whereas there aren't in Star Trek. This will be nothing like the X-Men crossovers. Plus the line up chosen to crossover with the TOS Enterprise crew have similarities in term of character.

True, I've seen that comparison myself, but have never quite understood it. Seven isn't even a time traveler in that original episode; it's implied that he has the capacity, but that wasn't really his schtick. He's a human raised by aliens who just happens to have a perky blonde sidekick. Any resemblance to Doctor Who is superficial at best

^Some Doctor Who fans accuse "Assignment: Earth" of ripping off the sonic screwdriver, but in fact the SS made its first appearance in Doctor Who on March 16, 1968, only 13 days before "Assignment: Earth" first aired, and nearly 3 months after the A:E script was written. So any resemblance between the servo and the sonic is strictly coincidental.

Or... someone was doing a little time travel.

The first issue isn't even out yet, and IDW's already solicited a second printing!

I can't believe how awesome it is that I live in a world where Keith Giffen has drawn a Kirby-esque Spock. I can't believe how utterly geeky it was to write that last sentence. :)
