I was almost yelling at my tablet over his single-minded insistence on attacking the aliens.

The one justification I could see there was the notion that, due to the numbers, anything other than a surprise attack would lead to defeat. Thus, taking the chance on anything that gave away that singular advantage would guarantee defeat if battle became necessary. There is a certain cold, pragmatic logical to that.

But yes, his thinking did seem especially limited. Particularly when Marla was advocating using their equipment to call for help, and he's asking "Who would we call...?" Maybe... the aliens' people, who would presumably want to come to rescue them...? They may be out of range, but the idea that even Marla could only suggest 'Maybe, like, Starfleet, I guess?', essentially... it was a little frustrating.

Likewise, his refusal to even consider that an advanced race and their skills and scavenged technology could aid in the struggle for survival to come until someone pointed it out to him...

Maybe she's Kirk's descendant and resents him not being in her life.
Intriguing...
