"Star Trek IV" cameo in "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (not huge spoiler)

Apologies... As the article (albeit it in a tongue in cheek way) seemed to paint the punk as an unheralded character important to all Trek, as well as describing the actor's involvement in Trek in general as well as other scifi, I thought that General Trek would be the most appropriate forum... But by all means, move it anywhere you'd like...

I first read about Kirk Thatcher in a Doctor Who (!) book about undeveloped Who stories, where he was tangentially involved when Leonard Nimoy was considering directing a Doctor Who film. I had no idea that the same person who played the punk also did the music on the boom box, (which fast became my favorite unlikely-but-true fact about Voyage Home), but I was also impressed that he'd worked with ILM on many of the big 80s movie (including Return of the Jedi!) too.

So he was already a bit of an inspiration to me, but to also find out about the extent of his Muppet career after the book came out...it blew my mind all over again. He co-wrote Muppet Treasure Island--another one of my all-time favorite movies! It's amazing that being part of one of the most memorable scenes in one of the best Trek films is actually the least interesting thing about him. Thanks for sharing the article--it made my day.

I told Leonard Nimoy, 'Look, I used to have a mohawk, and I'll dress the part—you won't recognize me.' Leonard said, 'Huh, really,' in that deep, basso profondo way. I couldn’t tell if he thought it was a stupid idea. [Kirk Thatcher]

BTW, Kirk R. Thatcher was an Associate Producer on ST IV, and also responsible for naming the alien race of "Efrosians" - seen on the Saratoga (in ST IV) and then as Federation President (in ST VI) - after ST IV Unit Manager, Mel Efros. Thatcher added the species name to a caption on the publicity still of actor Nick Ramos, and the name has stuck.
