Why didn't it fit him? Are Scotty and Spock interchangeable characters? The technobabble they gave Scotty, for example, didn't fit him nor would it have fit Spock.

It was TNG style technobabble. Neither Scotty nor Spock talked like that in TOS.Why didn't it fit him? Are Scotty and Spock interchangeable characters?
Kirk's Ghost (looking upward): Beam me up, Scotty. There's no intelligent life down here.Kirk's Ghost: "So, Picard, did you follow my advice and not let them promote or transfer you?"
Picard: "Funny story...."
Kirk's Ghost: [*Pinches bridge of nose and sighs loudly*]
Come to think of it, I think you are right. That whole bit about the resonance burst from the deflector dish does sound TNG and not really TOS.It was TNG style technobabble. Neither Scotty nor Spock talked like that in TOS.
Yes, the deflector-dish-as-Swiss-army-knife didn't become a trope until TNG.Come to think of it, I think you are right. That whole bit about the resonance burst from the deflector dish does sound TNG and not really TOS.
And reverse the polarity.Yes, the deflector-dish-as-Swiss-army-knife didn't become a trope until TNG.
I do appreciate Kirk dressing down Picard over the whole duty and obligation thing. Only James T. Kirk could put Picard in his place and render the latter speechless.
TOS did the whole reversing polarity thing at least once or twice. The one that sticks out to me is Scotty in the tube in "That Which Survives."And reverse the polarity.
Right but did it involve the sensor dish?TOS did the whole reversing polarity thing at least once or twice. The one that sticks out to me is Scotty in the tube in "That Which Survives."

Fair points. Scotty did seem to do far more actual hands-on repairing. LaForge mostly worked computer consoles. O'Brien got pretty hands-on at times though. And he did it with a small handheld, wrench-like tool! In modern Trek that's a "push this button" kind of thing.
