Star Trek Finally Reveals Uhura Became Captain of Her Own Starship

I keep wondering what kind of propulsion system the USS Leondegrance had.

The Lesser Magellanic Clouds are 200,000 light years away, and Uhura commanded a mission that went there, surveyed, and came back in five years, meanwhile seventy years later it would have taken Voyager seventy years to go 70,000 light years.

Perhaps this connects to the Andromeda Galaxy missions from Vonda McIntyre's Star Trek novelizations. Was the USS Magellan a "proof of concept" that an extragalactic drive worked, and the Leondegrance, built a few years later, was a refinement based on the data from the Magellan's flight into something that could be made more conventional?

I think the information on that plaque is nonsensical, and like the design of the ship, should probably be ignored.

There were a lot of weird looking ships during that Battle of the Binary Stars era. This could easily be one of them. Imagine if they'd given her a the outline of something as oddball as a Magee class ship.

If you look closely at the design, you can see that it resembles a Sovereign far more than it resembles a Walker.

That's a valid take. Things created for background elements need to look authentic but aren't necessarily meant to be taken seriously. Text, especially. It's filler. Lorem ipsum text. I get that.

At the same time, from a writer's standpoint, particularly those who like the Watsonian game, like myself, attempting to reconcile nonsensical things in an effort to make them fit is fun.

It looks like a Shepard class to me.

Which is basically just an upside down Walker.

Also, the ship was launched in 2288, during the same time period as STV: The Final Frontier. If anything, the ship should have looked like a TMP Constitution class, Constellation class, or Miranda class.

I suppose they could have been observing the Cloud from a very far away distance, but that’s not what the plaque implies.

This is my preference. Treating it as separate timelines is a valid approach, but I take things as a whole because that is more interesting to me. Treating it as a multiverse is boring as fuck for me.

As early as TNG? James R. Kirk and his Vucanian first officer (with "some human blood" in his ancestry) would like a word with you.

James R. Kirk and Vulcanian don't really seem like continuity issues as the show was still in flux deciding on terminology, character, setting. We get UESPA, Space Command, Space Central, Star Service... Starfleet... etc... in those early days.

They’re continuity issues in that they were changed to something else later, but they’re not continuity issues in that some later writer forgot to do his homework and didn’t realize Spock’s people were actually Vulcanians in the first few TOS episodes. It’s no different from Hawkeye Pierce’s home state being Vermont in the first season of M*A*S*H but Maine for the rest of the series. No 13th season writer would say that Hawkeye was from Vermont just because the first season said so. These examples are more of a ‘changed premise’ than a ‘continuity error.’ And they’re certainly not evidence that the Hawkeye from Vermont was from an alternate universe than the Hawkeye from Maine.

Mom died when he was a kid, I believe. And he both had a sister and was an only child.

And don’t get me started on Klinger’s blood type.
His mom was alive for a while until she died towards season 4 or 5 I think. In season 9 right now where mom did die.

Also, Colonel Blake was married to a Lorraine and a Mildred.

There is no such thing as "the Lesser Magellanic Clouds". Nor is the 250,000 light year distance exactly accurate.

The Small Magallanic Cloud is about 203,700 lightyears, plus or minus 1,500 light years from Earth and is about 18,900 light years in diameter. With diameter, and the uncertainty in the distance, the nearest part of the Small Magallanic Cloud could be as close as b about 192,750 light years from Earth, and the farthest part of the Small Magallanic Cloud could be as much as about 214,650 lgiht years from Earth.

Or possibly a little closer or a little farther.

The Large Magellanic Cloud is about 163,000 light yeas from Earth, and has a diameter of about 32,000 light years. Thus the near side of the Large Magellanic Cloud should be about 147,000 tlightyears from eArthand the far side should be 179,000 light years from Earth.
