Star Trek: Emissary

Avery Brooks being done with Hollywood is not by "his" choice. It's more like Hollywood is done with Avery, for whatever reason. Can't believe he got no acting assignments or offers after DS9, per IMDb. Yet, he apparently has been blacklisted for reasons yet to be revealed.

In an interview with Michael Dorn (Worf) on the Shuttlepod, he intimated that there was some sort of tension with Avery on the sets of DS9, which may have led to him being blacklisted with Hollywood execs, but he didn't bother to elaborate what those attitudes/incidents were.
More likely he didn't want to work series television anymore. Grueling schedules. He turned 59 when DS9 season 7 was made, and perhaps his personal finances were good enough that he didn't feel he had to work TV anymore. He has done some work for TV and movies but they are more limited commitments. Narration, The Captains, that sort of thing.

That's not the case. Cirroc Lofton indicated on a podcast, which is where I learned that Avery hadn't worked since DS9 that Avery wanted to continue his acting career but wasn't getting any offers, unlike the other Trek captains who continue to find work since the termination of their respective series. After awhile he took a teaching assignment at Rutger's University to earn income. In the meantime he has attended Trek conventions here and there (not often though) to earn appearance fees.

Some of those facts are slightly muddled AFAIK.

He did appear in a film post-DS9 (15 Minutes) and has also been in multiple stage productions.
He has been a tenured professor at Rutgers (where his wife is assistant Dean) since before DS9 even started.
