"Star Trek" DVD Sales Update

Figured I'd give an update on this since we're hitting the two year anniversary of the theatrical release. According to the-numbers.com, the latest Star Trek incarnation current stands at 6,790,007 units sold with $100,000,000 in DVD sales. It most recently popped back up in the charts during Halloween to #25.

Keep in mind this is only DVD sales, not including Blu-Ray, which I am also interested in finding out.

I originally got the DVD, now I'm thinking of getting the bluray. LOL I'm a sucker!

Initial reports were that the Blu-Ray sales were quite strong, selling 1.1 million units in its opening week. I haven't seen anything since then, however. I'm not sure where these things are tracked, or at least where the information can be found on a public website. Anyone here know?

3 of those sales are mine.

I'm kinda chuffed.

Woah. I just got the 2-disc DVD on release day. I later picked up the single-disc DVD second hand for £2, but just 'coz it's cover art is such a near-match for my DVD of Star Wreck: Imperial Edition.

Do It Do It Do It!

I had the DVD 2 disc set and got the blu-ray single disc recently.

The strange thing was, even on sale the single blue-ray was more than or the same as the 3 disc blu-ray set

So I guess the moral is, if you don't have a multi disc set, get that one.

I have the Blu-ray edition - an outstanding film to be sure, with the BD also delivering pure home cinema eye & ear candy. If you're thinking about moving into Blu-ray, Star Trek is certainly an excellent title to kick your collection off with.

I think the BluRay quality is very stunning as far as the picture. The sound is good. My big complaint on the technical side is that the sound varies a little too much for me. I found myself having to change the volume whenever someone was speaking or when an action sequence happened. That's not a sound gaffe, it just seemed like the action sequences were mixed significantly louder (to my ears at least.)

I have to do that frequently with a lot of movies no matter what format it's in. Just regular TV, DVD, Blu-Ray, Netlfix, etc. Maybe it's just your TV and sound system?

So it just hit $100 million officially...add to this the 2 million or so bluray sales and its about $150 million.

Released on DVD:November 17, 2009 DVD Units Sold:6,863,681 Consumer Spending:$100,371,022

I don't know what equipment you guys are listening to the disc on, but this is a problem that often comes up. Blu-ray/DVD disc soundtracks (especially on modern films) are specifically tailored to be enjoyed on home cinema surround sound systems - 5.1/6.1/7.1 etc. On a well balanced speaker set-up you shouldn't have to adjust the volume control to hear the dialogue (mostly in the center channel) clearly. However, playing back through TV speakers or a regular stereo the "hovering" over the volume control syndrome is a common complaint. On most modern modern DVD/Blu-ray players you should have an option called Dynamic Range Compression available from the machines set-up menu - select this option if you're not connected to an AV amp/receiver. This will improve your enjoyment significantly.:techman:

But seriously, good information, that might be exactly what I need to do!
