I thought this forum deserved its own thread about the writing staff.

Has anyone noticed that most of the writers are different than what has been reported in the past? According to the caption, here is who is in the photo:

Not in the picture are writers that were announced as part of the staff when Bryan Fuller was the showrunner: Nicholas Meyer, Kristen Beyer, Aron Eli Coleite, Jesse Alexander, and Joe Menosky. I wonder if the 5 not in the photo are still on the staff?
 
Kristen certainly is, they were chatting about her only a few weeks back. And given Meyer is tweeting off his dogs Twitter about production this week, he's clearly still there. No idea about the others.

There's already a thread about this very photo, mind.

Probably they are. Could be the difference between "Story by" and "Teleplay by."

Yeah, I saw the other thread about the photo, I just thought we could have a thread about the writers specifically.
 
I'm not familiar with any of their work aside from the two who worked with Fuller on Pushing Daisies. I noticed a bunch of them worked together on Reign and Revenge. Anyone seen those and are they any good?

They skew heavily towards young women is all I know.
 
The best name in that list is Craig Sweeny, who was a great writer on The 4400/Medium and the developer of Limitless

The rest appear to be lower echelon production staff for MOR TV shows I would go out of my way to generally ignore, even if a pair of them worked with Fuller in the past

Fuller and his head of bonkersness was the selling point for this show for me.

Ugh - scary that we have a writer from a Brannon Braga created show (The 4400). Hopefully, Mr. Braga's writing style didn't rub off on him too much as I don't want TNG/VOY tropes in the TOS era, thanks.
 
Yeah. No.

Brannon Braga had nothing to do with The 4400, which was developed by Rene Echevarria and then show-run by Ira Steven Behr, you know, those other TNG writers. He was working on ENT when 4400 started and the moved over to create Threshold.

I'm not a fan of some of Braga's work, but get your facts straight before you try to discredit someone else who likely has never sat in the same room as him.

Meyer was never a part of the writing team, was he? I thought he was a consulting producer? I remember him saying he wrote one episode for Fuller and was available when they had questions but that he was not part of the writing staff.

Reign is a guilty pleasure of mine. It's not terribly sophisticated storytelling, but the characters are engaging enough that I find myself coming back for more.

Revenge had a strong first season, but the following one turned into a soapy mess (so much so that I abandoned it before the season's end).

That's right. A consulting producer is someone who isn't part of the day-to-day grind of production but is officially on hand to offer the benefit of their experience and knowledge when needed. An advisor to the staff rather than a full member.

Craig Sweeny was also one of the best writers on Elementary.
 
And might I remind everyone looking at these writers' past writing credits that some of the best writers in Star Trek: Ronald D. Moore, Brannon Braga, Robert Hewitt Wolfe, Rene Echevarria, Naren Shankar, Michael Taylor, Bryan Fuller, Robert Doherty, and I can go on... all had no prior credits before being hired. Most of them weren't writers in the first place and were hired through the spec script policy. (Some of the exceptions being Brannon Braga, who was a writing intern and Naren Shankar, who was the science consultant.)

All of these writers also had success after Star Trek.
 
Making feminist arguments out of nothing. Reign and Revenge are total soap opera pieces of crap no matter what Dorothy Fontana did.
