This video of mine is an update on all things DSC and comes up with a new theory on the nature of the Shenzhou:

I agree.

Considering this is a message board for discussion, I think it's reasonable to expect a summary of the theory to be outlined.

Or you could just tell us what your theory is instead of making us watch your video. Or at best, give us the timestamp in the video where you talk about your theory. Otherwise this is just a blatant attempt to get us to watch your stuff ;)
Good point; reminds me I need to timestamp the description. Starship discussion starts at 1:28...

I don't think the Shenzou is the Discovery; TrekYards seem to have some inside knowledge and they say no. Although it is interesting how you could join the crews of the two Federation ships and come out with a full crew apart from a missing engineer...

There might be a reason they just did a video on saucer separation.

I've watched – or more accurately: suffered through – one or two videos of those TrekYards guys and I must say, I have a really hard time believing they could actually have any kind of “inside knowledge”. I hope they're not reading this, but to me they just come across like a couple of awkward, somewhat childish, canon-obsessed nerds. Nothing wrong with being a nerd per se, of course. But the self-important authority which makes up their videos is just insufferable for me.

They've had John Eaves, Doug Drexler, Rick Sternbach, Andrew Probert and some of the oldTrek VFX guys like Mojo as guests on their show, some multiple times. There's also a video out there of them recoding a podcast with Drexler and Eaves while hanging out in somebody's back yard and they're all acting like old friends.

I find it as hard to believe as you do, but they really do have connections to professional Trek. And we know Eaves is working on Discovery, so...

(Edit: and if you can tolerate the hosts, the designer interviews are pretty good. Drexler, Probert, Sternbach et al get to do quite a lot of talking about their approach to design, what it was like working on each series and so forth.)

I agree. While they are aquainted with some people like Doug Drexler, Rick Sternbach, Andrew Probert and John Eaves and have interviewed them.....I just can't believe old pros would leak info to ANY podcast. Let me risk my 30 year career and violate my NDA so I can give these guys a scoop........No. Don't see it.

We don't know what class the Shenzhou is. There is no filmed work for this period of the timeline to establish the types of ships used at this point, save for Enterprise (out there under Pike's command) and some other older ships that may have been seen in TOS or TOS-R (which may be retcons, depending on how you view TOS-R).

Part of the excitement for me is not knowing a lot about this time in the universe. Finding out new things about ship types, equipment used, etc.
