Star Trek: Discovery - The Enterprise War

Many of the preorder links are now live, at the end of my post. If I find more, I'll add 'em.

If I may add parenthetically, the book business is a pretty tough one to time an announcement in, any more -- you want the announcements to land when the order links are available, but that process spins out over several days, and of course the news is immediately available on the publisher's feed. Dropping a movie trailer is a lot simpler!

Just occurred to me that this book doesn’t need to be under the Discovery title. I suppose it’s because it set during this “Klingon War” that was apparently going on during season one.

Enterprise was on it's way back to Federation space because of the War when it gets caught up in this mess.

Best of luck with this.
I loved the Prey trilogy...an author that takes the toys out of the box and really plays with them.Bravo Sir!

Maybe it doesn't need to be a Disco novel, maybe it could be offered as a TOS novel, but the branding can't possibly hurt and could be a help. :)

There's actually a dual branding, in a sense. As I suggested in the other thread, this book would not have existed without the Discovery connection — and my enthusiasm for the show had a lot to do with me taking it. (A certain arc in the second half of the first season ranks as the finest Trek screen adventure in years, in my opinion.) The concept of Enterprise's absence came from Discovery, and its viewers will want to know where Enterprise was; the branding will help them.

Meanwhile, for those who don't watch the series, I made the case strenuously (and successfully) that the word "Enterprise" needed to be front and center in the title, because the book's events are important to the history of the ship and crew and should not be missed. It's also a cracking good story!

I don’t doubt it. Are you ever going to do more Aventine stories? Loved your take on them in Takedown.
I hope you don’t mean the Mirror universe stuff. I hated all that.

Heh! We shall see. I've brought it into every Trek story I've done so far. (But I think putting it in this book would be a stretch. Though maybe a previous Dax could be found wandering about... nah, better not!)

Is the mystery Spock is investigating a set up for the Red Angel or something just in the book?
This is the first Discovery book I'm really excited for. The others did sound interesting, but not as much as this one does.

I'm limited to what's in the catalog description, at the moment. We're still a long ways out — got to save some surprises!

It kind of does, since it's about Discovery's unique versions of the USS Enterprise, Pike and crew and they want readers to know that.

Initially I wondered about that too, but the blurb and some of Miller's hints indicate this story will be told from the Discovery show's perspective and plotlines. I expect if the cover features Captain Pike, it will be the Captain Pike from Discovery, and not Hunter's Pike. I haven't read 'The Way to the Stars' yet but it sounds like that's a pre-Discovery book like the first 3 Discovery books. Assuming that's true, Miller will have the honor of being the first author to write the first book that takes place sometime during the series run.

I suspect if it was solely a Pike-Enterprise story then it probably would have carried the original series banner. Or I guess a better way to put it is if they want the Pike book to reflect or remind you of 'The Cage' more, then it'd probably be an original series story. Though I wonder, if we get future Pike stories, they may decide to make them from now on as they are featured on Discovery. I think as long as Discovery maintains its popularity they'll try to milk it as much as possible.

I read the first 3 and they were pretty good (I'm assuming you haven't read them yet). My favorite is the 2nd one, "Drastic Measures" which takes place on Tarsus IV and features Kodos the Executioner---and it's a Lorca based story. It was my favorite of the first 3 thus far. I'd highly recommend that one if you get a chance. I really liked Lorca as portrayed in this story and I read the first 3 before seeing the series. I'm still watching the first season and finished the first episode of the 'mirror universe' arc. But I have to admit, after reading the book, he's not quite what I expected...I almost expected a more serious, intense character, but on the show he's got a dry wit and an almost nonchalant way of running things. I like him but it's just not exactly what I expected. Something is off. But I digress, "Drastic Measure", great book.
