Sounds like it was taken from a previous blog post. I'd suggested just before then that the Discovery is the dish from the Shenzou mated with a Klingon D7 type craft.

I didn't really expand on this but there are quite a lot of hints.

1) The shape of the dish doesn't really match the angular style of the secondary hull
2) The deflector is in a tubular recess a lot like where a D7s boom would be
3) The nacelles are not Federation tubes but Klingon style
4) We hear a cloaking sound at the end of the dry dock test footage of Discovery
5) TrekYards never refer to the Shenzou model as the Shenzou. They are quite careful about this
6) Trekyyarsa have done several videos recently on Klingon craft and saucer separation

This has been a rumor floating around, and IMO it's really not that plausible. Beyond that, I would frankly take anything on Trekyards with a huge grain of salt. Just because they have neat graphics and talk to Trek designers really isn't enough to carry their speculation, which is really all it is.

None of this is their speculation.

Seems like an old rumor. Given the most recent casting news, I doubt it.

Since we now have three captains cast, I would expect there to be three separate ships. Maybe there is still slight chance that there might be some refitting going on, but I doubt that it is with Shenzou.

I don't know what they know at Trekyards, but they clearly implied that they had a more current look at the title ship than any of us from the teaser. They are dancing around the secret of it's design, but what they know or think they know is unclear.

This sounds really interesting, but I have to wonder why they'd have two captains unless they are going to kill one off or leave one behind immediately. I hope they don't do what Voyager did and kill a bunch of officers so they can combine two crews... well, as long as it's good, I suppose none of the details matter much.

Yeah, this rumor is old and I still don't believe it. If it is a badly damaged and refitted Shenzou, why would they change the name? It'd feel more starfleety to keep the oroginal name to honor the original ship.

It would make more sense to rename the ship if it is half of a federation ship and half of a klingon ship cobbled together for a joint mission but in that case wouldn't they choose a neutral name and not an starfleet name with a starfleet registry? And would the klingons be okay with starfleet getting a REALLY good look at their technology and are both the federation and the klingons so strapped for ships that they can't send a single new one to do whatever mission the Discovery is on? The idea of a combined starfleet/klingon ship doesn't make much sense unless they're far away and trying to get home, but that's Voyager's premise just with the maquis fighter screwed onto voyager as a replacement impulse engines and an extra warp core.

Literally combining ships of opposing factions feels like it's straight out of fan fiction.

It could be a story where the Klingon and Federation ships believe themselves to be the survivors of something like a MAD nuclear attack. But...how far from either the Federation or Klingon Empire would they have to be to make such pooling of resources a viable solution to 'get home' or find out what has happened...and as to how this borderline Voyager set up works in the context of the Prime timeline is anyone's guess. I suppose they could be break away rogue factions...a crew that believes the Federation is no longer behaving to its ideals, explaining the split Starfleet badge...but again, where and why would that be a logical place for the story, are they essentially a 23rd centrury Maquis element?

On the other hand...I think I was one of the people nattering about the Klingon styling on the secondary hull when the teaser came out. Hah.

Could be interesting...could not be. Let's see. If we are keeping only one captain, I would go with Michelle as lead...it's possible we keep both, but they both stand down as captain of the newly refit ship after its cobbled together in the asteroid. Number One then becomes a sort of elected captain or something. It sounds messy.

Trust me, I can say on a YouTube video with a serious tone and look to say that the starship Discovery is made of chocolate and it will be believed.

Until the series airs, anything anyone says is speculation, especially the Trekyards guys. Until they can prove with studio documentation what they say is going to happen, it's speculation at best.

No, really... Those guys appear to have spoken to designers and seen things that in this case are not historical retrospective. Sure, they could be mistaken or slightly mislead, but when they say they saw a newer version of the ship, I don't think it's dishonesty or blind speculation. However, since they don't seem to have any permission to speak about it, you certainly won't find many details in their videos.

I tend to think the Trekyards guys aren't lying about their inside knowledge. They've had Drexler on the channel several times at least and he's working on the show.

Also, we all know anything said here is speculation. Without speculation, there'd be no need for a forum called Discovery as of yet. Speculation is fine and it is fun. We should let our imaginations run wild and talk about all of these ideas without being repeatedly told to wait and see.

Also Trekyards did a 2-parter about saucer separation. Suspiciously interesting. :techman:
