Osyraa must be the first obviously bipolar Star Trek character: she goes cardboard villan to very reasonable and back in the blink of an eye. Still really great she actually has nobler ideals than the "slave owner villain" she seemed to be. I also like the disabled scientist, although it's kinda obvious he'll betray the chain next week.
She's not biopolar, she was attempting to play the Federation for something we didn't find out since the Admiral put a condition on it that she wasn't willing to accept.

Vance was calling Osyraa's bluff when he asked her to stand trial. Osyraa thought she could fool the Federation into a treaty by giving a crazy amount of secessions. Vance didn't buy any of it and was proved right when Osyraa refused to take responsibility for her actions.
Osyraa has been incredibly straightforward and reasonable in this matter (and let’s remember she honestly believes in what she’s doing: she’s connected to a lie detector!), but it’s really going to far to expect a foreign power’s leader to step down and stand trial for “crimes” that weren’t even considered crimes by her government. It’s a sure way to blow up negotiations, which is exactly what happens.

Is she fooling the lie detector, then? I’ll be really bummed if this is the case and she was a cardboard villain all along after all.

Pretty much. Vance doesn't negotiate with terrorists.

ah, right, the American myth that you shouldn’t negotiate with terrorists, while in fact in the whole world (and, often, in the USA as well), police forces totally do negotiate to terrorists, avoiding to get people killed.

Osyraa probably learned how to beat holo lie detectors in orion kindergarten. Osyraa was holding a federation crew and ship hostage that is far from reasonable. Its also not so much about osyraa standing trial as it is about how she responded. If osyraa was truly reasonable she would have seen vance's reasoning. Instead she threw a tantrum. If osyraa was truly interested in peace she wouldn't have been such an obstacle to it.

There are always going to be red lines in any negotiation that you're not prepared to cross and Admiral Vance clearly had his.

Rightly or wrongly depending on different people's views he wasn't prepared to concede on certain things - which is fair.

I think the Federation and the Emerald Chain are like the Frankish Kingdom and the Kingdom of Italy after the fall of the Western Roman Empire.

Side comment - I see in your avatar you're in Quincy, MA. That's my hometown; born and raised. :)

Remember, these are holos that can be blinked into crashing ;)

I'm so sick of all the crying that is driving me crazy.
We have a thread for that:
https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/the-dedicated-disco-crying-thread.306440/

Hearing the same one criticism over and over and over again is like Chinese Water Torture.
Point still stands. We've heard this 10 Million times. We get it. This is the show. Let's move on.
[...]
So, from my point of view, people are going on and on and on and on and on and on about something I don't even see. It's like, "Please just fucking stop already." It's gone way passed annoying now.
That's why we have a separate thread for that.

Edit:
Maybe those concerned about the crying should limit their "opinions" to the idiotic thread created for said subject instead of infecting every thread with that nonsense?
If people would post their crying posts there, it would serve its purpose.
It's supposed to be helpful, not idiotic. You're welcome.

anything is possible til next week, I guess, but if that turns out to be true: booh, what a cop out!

Would
Have Vance negotiated if she had a, though?

the only tantrum I see is vance’s Self-righteous tirade.

I'm actually all for that thread. We'll still hear about it non-stop in New Episode Threads, unfortunately. On the "bright" side, there are no more new episodes after next week. So all the "discussion" about it will go in the Crying Thread afterwards.

There probably won't be any new Disco episodes airing in 2021 (aside from the S3 Finale). So my hope is that a lot of certain people will get bored and move on. Of course, I doubt that's actually going to happen.

I would love to recommend this board to fellow Disco Fans who don't post here, as it's better than some other places, but I honestly can't. I know this place, so I know what to do. But them? They'd be hitting landmine after landmine.

I really enjoyed this. Osyraa's approach was unexpected but made a degree of sense - she sees that the days are numbered for the Chain, and wants to transition into a new way of life while still maintaining a level of power through her proxy. Great to see Zoran back, and for Ken Mitchell to get a role. Stamets had some really good moments too. The fire suppression thing was nonsense, though!
