I just find it strange that folks want to complain about Tilly's promotion to ACTING First Officer.

It's a F'n TRIAL PERIOD, it's not like once she gets there she's gonna go all "Killy" and murder Saru as well as the entire bridge crew and then take over the ship.

It would be nice to hear of individual's enjoyments and not just the flaws.

Is discussing positives considered so boring as to be passe? Asking for a friend.

I honestly have a much harder time writing at length about why I like something than something I don't like. Maybe this is in part because for every flaw you can write two things (what's wrong, and how it could be fixed) whereas there's only one thing you can write for something hat works (what's right).

It’s interesting where we each draw the line on suspension of disbelief, isn’t it?

Culber resurrected in the mycelial network? Utterly preposterous!

Spock resurrected on the Genesis planet? Beautiful!

Sorry, but this is kinda a strawman argument, since no one has defended Spock's resurrection in this episode. I don't mind TSFS (I think it's an underrated movie with a great thematic core) but I try and forget it ever happened personally.

When the whole "spore ghost" thing happened in Season 2, I thought back to the Katra thing. But the thing is I can excuse that a bit more because Vulcans are aliens. The human mind clearly doesn't work as "software" which is separable from the "wetware" of our brain, but maybe Vulcan consciousness is entirely different. On the other hand, there have been mind-transfers in Trek as far back as TOS, so we can just I suppose accept that Star Trek is a universe of Cartesian dualism even if we don't live in such a universe ourselves (as far as we can tell).

I simply cannot forgive the Genesis Device though. It's so stupid.

My highest rating so far in season 3 — I give it a 6.

No, I’m not enjoying season 3. Why do you ask?

plenty of people were not ok with that aspect on TNG. Also, why every time something doesn’t work on Discovery someone comes out with something that didn’t on TNG 30 years ago?

As said many times, just because something didn’t make sense in a previous story it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t strive to do better.

Exactly. The people that think discover is doing a great job with canon and say the things like “well it’s a tradition to make change the look of the Klingons.” The biggest change for the Klingons came in TMP then they tweaked in in the later movies and a bit more for TNG but basically it was pretty consistent. Also DS9 and later Enterprise explained the difference from TOS to the movies and later episodes. Discovery went out of its way to make a huge change in their looks, tech and attitudes just for the sake of change. Just how like they advanced Starfleet tech way beyind what we saw in TOS and even beyond TNG. Why? Why not just start the show past TNG instead of polluting canon so badly? Now they will do STSNW and will they make it the same? Probably. They can’t even make the damn view screen square or the officers quarters having a normal rectangular door. Everything has been changed for the sake of change. Enterprise did it much better when they updated the lighting and graphics for the in a mirror darkly episodes. These guys just don’t respect the old show.,I’ve been watching some of TOS recently and there is some excellent writing there. They weren’t all gems but man a lot of them were.

Yawn

Because that's Trek. Trek updating with current tech and allowing people to engage with the technology rather than assuming the 60s interpretation of technology continued forward.

These guys just don’t respect the old show.
The old show doesn't need respect. Let them tell their story and we bitch about it; that's fandom, right?

DS9 didn't explain a thing. It just lampshaded a change - and nonsensically so, since it would have had to mean that Bashir and O'Brien had never seen a single image of a TOS-era Klingon or ever heard in passing that they once looked different.

Apparently lampshading 15 years later, and clumsy explanation 25 years later is sufficient - I guess we have another decade or so before a future show needs to address Disco's changes.

Still waiting on an explanation for why Romulans have forehead ridges in every series other than TOS, in direct contradiction to a TOS plot point.
