I like the idea of a plebiscite being held to see if former UFP worlds want to return to the UFP and having the main big players - Earth, Vulcan, Tellar, Betazed, Delta saying no lol (villainous laughter, twirls moustache)

I think it take place in the same universe but is the result changing plans. If we see the Calypso Disco again it will have the A.
With programable matter, it certainly wouldn't be difficult to remove the A. Shoot, even without programmable matter, it just requires just a paint job.

If it ties in, I wouldn't be surprised if they come up with some reason for removing the A. Like removing all evidence of the future. Or blending in. Etc.

I'm not 100% convinced. I think he said that to put her on the defensive. Make her feel less special. She takes pride in her attitude and he say's it's genetic. We know that it struck home because her reaction was, "I'm extreme even by Terran standards." She was on the defensive there looking for a way to maintain her view of things.

I don't know if that was meant to be the truth. But, it could be. We know that there is the eyesight and light issue. So, there seems to be some genetic differences. But the Mirror Universe stories from DS9 show perfectly normal (by our standards) humans. In fact, Empire fell because it changed as a whole.

Well, I guess we'll find out sometime!
Considering a lot of fans called it that Tyler was a Klingon double agent, (it was too obvious). Starfleet doing something dodgy to Georgiou comes across as another Tyler moment where the fans call it. But I don't go for the Human Terrans are physically different, the TOS and DS9 ones eyesight were fine when they crossed over.
But its another Trek tradition of 'lets change aliens cos we can' (hello Klingons and Romulans)

SMG has made some comments offscreen about how Michael is not entirely sure that Starfleet is right for her any longer. I wonder if we're working towards her exiting the main character by the end of the season?

Except we have absolutely no reason to suspect it was a deliberate attack, rather than some accidental thing that just happened (with or without input from sentient beings).

It's like presuming because an asteroid falls on your house and destroyed it some alien decided to make it land exactly there.
We also don’t know if it isn’t. That’s the point, no one knows, and if no one knows what caused it, no one knows if it could or would happen again.

the best way to defend against something is to know about it.

I think I would have preferred it if Michael had not violated orders. Instead, have Michael and Saru take Book's message to Vance and have Vance approve Michael's side mission. I would have liked to see Michael at least try to follow Starfleet rules instead of so casually throwing them out at the first chance she gets.
Yeah... wasn’t that the point? That they both should have come up with a compromise? That they should have told Vance? Like they say that in the episode.

Trekyards brought up a good point in their review. How come Discovery crew is still in their old Discovery uniforms and not in the new Starfleet uniforms? If Discovery is part of the new Starfleet, they should be in the new uniforms.

With Ryn surviving and the Emerald Chain seemingly a backdrop villain so far, I assume we're going to see the mysterious Osyraa (who I assume for now is an Orion woman) at some point this season. Probably teamed up with a vengeful Zareh.

It's Admiral Vance's way of putting a shirt on the crew that says "Don't mind my ignorance of modern technology and culture, I'm from the 23rd century".

Detmer: What's a Borg?
Captain Antilles: How could you not know--Oh, your uniform. OK, I'll explain what a Borg is.

Have they ever said what Linus's rank and position on the ship are?

I was wondering about that too. We have seen people continue to use old uniforms after a change in the earlier shows, there were some people still wearing the TNG uniforms all the way up to the 6th season of DS9, so this might just a more extreme example of that. I'm wondering if maybe Starfleet gives the crew of each ship a choice of which uniforms they want to use, and Saru and Co. decided to stick with their blues. It always kind of bugged me that Voyager stuck with their old uniforms after they made contact with Starfleet and saw the new gray shoulder ones.

It needed a 5 minute shuttle fly by with emotional music
Followed by a graphic scene of Linus having a messy and fatal transporter accident after his portable transporter malfunctions again, fatally this time, scaring a generation of kids watching the show.

Then they'll show a scene with a Dr. McCoy descendant refusing to get a transporter badge, saying "I'm a doctor, not a guinea pig!"

what do you mean? At this point you just need 3 black boxes (which now they have) to pinpoint the source of the burn to two quite precise possible locations in space, the next logical step would be to check those out.

It’s not rocket science, it’s indeed something that the Greek in BC times could have done!
I think three boxes can narrow down to two points if one knew: The exact time it originated, and the speed of the effect, otherwise more boxes would be needed. (Normally three satellites and a precise clock can be used with GPS, otherwise four satellites are needed. However, with GPS you know the speed of light.)

I'm not precisely sure of the following, but I'm assuming someone will correct me if I'm wrong:
(Assuming that the boxes are placed in a proper configuration, e.g. not in a line/plane, etc)
Two boxes: Tells you which box was closer to source.
Three: Locate on a plane
Four: Locate on a line
Five: Narrow down to two points, and determine speed of effect.
Six: Locate precisely with speed of effect.

It's also possible that if the clocks aren't accurate or precise enough more boxes could reduce the error in locating the source. If there was more than one source even more boxes could be needed to find all the sources.

I do have to say, I kinda preferred how the male Orions were shown in Enterprise's last season (as these big, incredibly buff dudes) to the DIS rendering (which is just...green people).

I did like the implication in this episode though that the Orions are still matriarchial.

I'm more wondering if the mind controlling pheromone thing from Enterprise is still going to come up.

Random Emerald Chain Goon: Admiral Vance, please don't arrest all of us! We didn't have a choice. We didn't want to become criminals! Osyraa... she used her pheromones on us! Please have mercy! :wah:

Vance:

Also, The Burn. This happened, what, 100+ years ago? What's the rush, Michael? It's obviously a very big deal, but the urgency they're attaching to figuring it out doesn't really gel with me. Good job in risking Saru and the rest of the crew's reputation going off in renegade mode the moment you don't get your way.
Ya its been a 150 years but Burnham is the only one running round like everyone is about to die. Sad thing is this show will always prove her right

.
Transporter chief
I seem to remember replicator power was strictly rationed in Voyager. Janeway's not going to mass replicate a bunch of uniforms and waste all that power.
Voyager gave up on limited resources very quick. The ship look immaculate after 7 years

Really liked this episode. The main story was cliche but Book has the charisma to save it and seeing a Bajoran enslaved and tortured like that really got to me. More than any group I hope they are ok in the 32nd century.

The crew given space continue to be fun and interesting and Tilly is a great character when she is written as confident and I hope they are done with scared insecure Tilly. Stamets continues to be brilliant in every scene and really like Adira but not sure Im a fan of Drop Dead Fred

Vance has demonstrated that the Federation and Starfleet are pushed back on their heals and don't have the resources. Burnham is willing to try anyway because they brought a new resource and a new perspective. As others have noted it's also part of Burnham coping with being shifted in to the future and finding new purpose.

I get people getting Burnham fatigue (I'll not rehash those arguments) but her having a project to focus on is pretty much a part of her personality, for good or ill.
