The YouTube videos were the reason I even knew about Downfall.
I heard about Downfall back when it came out due to the WWII reenacting circles I used to run in. I think one of the first ones was the NuBSG series version (they both came out in 2004). I remember that Hitler was particularly vexed that Starbuck was turned into a female!

But anyway, it felt forced in STD. It would have made more sense in the Klingon prison ship scenes.
I thought it was one of the more believable lines of dialogue that have been uttered on the show so far. Tilly delivering that line is completely in character for her and something I could totally see myself or my friends saying in a similar situation, and it gave me a big smile. As did Stamet's reaction to it.

In the Cancer Center where I work casual swearing is extremely common...notin front of patients mind you...
There would be a lot in high pressure environments where lives/money/careers are at stake such as hospitals, trading floors and board rooms.

I guess I'm just not used to casual swearing in a professional work environment in any of the jobs I've ever been in over the years.
Eh. I occasionally swear at work. And my work is teaching kids. But this is in Finland, Americans seem to be childishly allergic to bad words.

I love it! Everyone pretty much does where I work, for the most part, except the near-retiring baby boomers who look at the rest of us askance when it happens, like someone dropped some rabbit pellets in their morning cornflakes. I find cussing to be an immensely useful and even powerful tool to get the point across when it's absolutely necessary.

>>>BANG on the conference table<<< WAKE UP YOU FUCKERS - you're doing this wrong and if you don't change what you're doing you're going to misconfigure that storage server into a molten pile of slag and your million-dollar cloud service will be a million-dollar paperweight! That usually gets the point across.

But if you're going to do that, there is only one rule...

Be right.

I realized this morning that we may have "buried the lead" on the scene with Stamets and the doctor brushing their teeth. We were so distracted by "sonic toothbrush" and "openly gay couple" and "creepy reflection" that unless I missed it, we haven't discussed the fact that *apparently* Discovery allows couples to bunk together.

I say "apparently" because it has also occurred to me that we still don't actually know they're a couple. Perhaps they've just become close, fast friends because they room together? And perhaps... Starfleet requires that gay people bunk together so as not to make "straight" people uncomfortable? Yeah - I don't want to think that would be the case, either, but who the heck knows with this series so far? For all we know, gay rights were set way back during the wars of the 20th and 21st centuries, and they're just now getting back to more or less where we are now.

I think the conversation they had clearly indicated they are a couple. What do you want, a neon sign flashing "GAY COUPLE RIGHT HERE" with an arrow?

Didn't one of them say, "that's why I love you" or something like that? Could've sworn that was in the dialog.

Yeah, I don't think there's any doubt in anyone's minds what that scene was about. They may have started off as simple bunk-mates, like Tilly and Burnham, and then it organically evolved into something else. Don't think either of them are going to ask for a move to a new room if Starfleet has anti-relationship + bunking regs. No biggie.

No, but that WOULD be hilarious. Talk about making the sort of people who talk about "the liberal agenda in the media" have apoplectic fits! :guffaw:

I agree with what we think we saw, I'm just saying that we can't entirely assume. Plus, I'm bored. ;)
