star trek crossover idw comics

They're crossing over a marketable property with other marketable properties. What's the problem? If you don't like 'em, don't read 'em.

Also, "It's been 50 years, and these are two of the biggest properties to come out of the '60s that are still relevant today. Why hasn't there been a crossover yet?"

It's true, IDW does have a bit of an obsession with crossovers, they've done crossovers involving at least one team-up of every property they have the license to. I don't see how this is proof of questionable mental state or whatever. It's just an extension of childhood fantasies. Let's be honest, we all used to have our action figures from different series interacting with each other. What a fun conference between Captain Picard, Spock, Batman and Darth Vader that turned out to be.

Crossovers are IDW's thing. They're stories that you can't get in any other media because they would be too difficult to do or could never have been done.

There are other properties that I'd like to see IDW cross Trek with, some published by IDW themselves (Transformers!), some published by DC Comics (Batman '66, New Gods), some published by Dark Horse (Aliens).

I don't know what/if they'll do next. I'm sure we'll be surprised.

I enjoyed the Star Trek/Doctor Who crossover from a few years back; have heard mixed reviews of the Apes one.

Given that 2017 will mark the 40th anniversary of Star Wars and the 30th of ST:TNG, I think the licensing powers that be should make a comics crossover of the two big "Star" franchises happen.

BTW, does anyone else think that that's a miscolored Sulu between Kirk & Spock on the cover posted above? It looks WAY too much like George Takei to be a coincidence, IMO.

Maybe Mirror-Universe Sulu beamed over to help them out... ;)

I haven't read any of the crossovers yet, but I think the idea of them is a lot of fun. People enjoy putting things they like together, so if you have the ability to do it, officially, then why not?

I do wish they wouldn't do them quite so frequently, though. It kind of cheapens them if they become routine.
