Star Trek Continues, Episode 4...

I read that each second of Super Bowl commercial airtime this year cost $150,000 to purchase, or the budget for 3 complete episodes of STC. :wtf:

It's going to be a sprint for them to reach their first stretch goal in order to build a Main Engineering set. With only 13 days left to go they'll have to average a bit over $1500 a day.

It'll be close.

If I won the lottery I'd help these folks out more. Mind you I wouldn't go nuts over it.

Hey Warped9 did they ever let you back on their Facebook page? Did that whole mess ever get cleared up?
I had written to them about it, but never heard back. I could try again.

It's evident here I really like the show and I don't know if who runs their FB page is heavily involved in STC's production. Nonetheless I kicked in a little cash to the Kickstarters because I'd like to see them succeed.

There seem to be a couple of folks involved with STC posting here so I can always give input here or more directly through their email and if it matters it should get conveyed to them.

They may get a late spurt. A few people are saying things like they have to wait for their next paycheck, etc.

Ah well. Hopefully someone will get back to you. Seems kind of ridiculous that if you emailed them directly they couldn't simply send back a simple response. This is why I much prefer Nick Cook's "Starbase One" FB page for the fan films -- no agenda, no BS, just talk about the fan films and news surrounding them.

STC is beginning to post Ep. 4 pics pn their FB page. Chekov might be absent from this episode because Smith is at Navigation. And McKennah is wearing her hair in a much more TOS style.

A new video has Michelle Specht, Kim Stinger and Grant Immahara making a pitch for their Kickstarter.

They really should have Chris Doohan being featured.

They also seemed to have dropped the "Piece Of The Action" shtick in their videos. Hopefully that also clearly signals (to some) that they're not hinting at a gangster planet followup episode.

The shtick may return shortly. They originally announced a video every 5 days, but these "testimonials" are coming in between.

At the current rate, it looks like the Engine Room might be a go but I'm doubtful that the Planet Set can be funded this round, unless there are many donors waiting in the wings for a last minute rally.

I feel more concern for the Valiant folks, honestly. Again -- there was never any doubt in my mind that Continues would reach its goal. But in 21 days, the Valiant GoFundMe hasn't even cracked half of the paltry $5,000 they were asking for. Maybe it's just a product of bad timing having both fan films doing their fundraising at nearly the same time. It's still a shame.

I absolutely agree. I really hope Valiant can make it, but they have a high hill to climb.

I suspect they are going to get a last-minute rally. If you look at their first Kickstarter, they had almost twice as many donors as they've had so far in this one. And I don't think their fan base has shrunk.

I was briefly looking over the gofundme info and it looks like there are a couple of funding types, "Personal" or "All or Nothing". If they chose personal, there is no time limit, which might be good in this case. I would imagine there might be some overhead cost differences or stipulations which might make one more desirable over another, but as far as I can tell, no time limit has been posted for USS Valiant. (Of course the sooner it's funded, the sooner we get to see another great episode) :D

eta:
Upon further review, if it were time limited, it would say "Pledge Now", not "Donate Now", so at least time is not really a factor and it's not an All or Nothing situation, funds can be withdrawn and applied at any time.

The challenge with crowdfunding is always "visibility". If you have "names" associated with a project it's much easier to get social media attention so that people are aware of your crowdfunding campaign in the first place. Fail that and you likely fail to hit your goal.

I do music videos for a group and we've had to change our deployment strategy completely because of the way Facebook's (d)evolving sharing algorithms affected what followers and friends were and weren't seeing. You have to stay on top of this stuff to make sure your message gets out there, because the rules are always changing.

STC is creeping ever closer to their first stretch goal to enable them to build a Main Engineering set. Everyday they have to average just a bit less. They just might make it.

And Colin Baker has done a testamonial video on one of their Kickstarter updates and without making any pitch for the Kickstarter itself.

Maybe Bill Gates and Larry Ellison are Trekkies who are waiting in the wings to fund the next two seasons.

They've settled on a date and venue for the premiere of Episode 4. No specifics available, but it's a convention in May.
