Star Trek Continues and Farragut Films part ways

It was announced yesterday on STC's Facebook page that Farragut Films will no longer be using the Star Trek Continues studio in Georgia, which is being renamed "Stage 9" after the old stage at Desilu and is now under the exclusive ownership and management of STC.

This appears to have been an amicable split arising from Farragut's desire to move in a different direction... possibly to do a Wrath of Khan-era series.

As such, Farragut Fest is no more. STC wants to keep having events where people can tour the sets, but there are no definite plans yet.

You can hear more about Farragut's plans to move the series forward into the movie era here:

Wow, thats quite some news. Not sure about the "amicable" thing so shortly after they bonded. But I´ll be very interested in their "accurate" Twok sets. That will be quite a challenge. It would be great to have a high profile movie era fan production.

I don't believe they'll be able to reproduce the movie sets. My guess is more they'll be "accurate to the style" than "accurate in construction".

Perhaps something like Universal's "Star Trek Adventure" set — a smaller-scale wedge that resembled the set.

Wow...correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Farragut Films build all the sets and then STC came along later to use them? The way it's worded above makes it sound like the opposite happened. I guess Farragut must have "sold" the sets to STC at some point? :wtf:

No, that is not correct. Farragut had a portion of the bridge and transporter room prior to STC. During the partnership the rest of the sets were built.

Wasn´t it also partly the Ajax sets - I remember there was some hassle about those sets between Continues and Ajax.

Anyways, it will be very interesting to see how they pull off these rather complicated shapes for the bridge.

That's a very long story with a lot of various versions. Without regard to that, Starbase Studios is trying to rebuild more sets, and I hope they succeed.

There are no corresponding comments on the Farragut Films facebook page, nor could I find anything on the Farragut website. We'll know more once they actually post something.

I like the move purely for variety - I know it's people of a certain age have a nostalgia and the 60s sets are easy to build but there are a whole load of TOS series popping up all over the place!!

However with Farragut starting in the 5ym era and progressing we can really see those characters grow and develop, that's the exciting part about all this

It was mentioned a few weeks ago by the Farragut people that they were planning a spin-off series set in the Wrath of Khan era, but at that time I had thought they would keep both this and STARSHIP FARRAGUT running.

Now thinking about it, if I may risk offending someone, their reason for discontinuing the original TOS-set Farragut series probably has to do with the lead actors starting to show the signs of ageing (Michael Bednar becoming quite gray-haired in their last webisode, for one). and their wish to jump ahead to reflect this.

But now that the Farragut crew seems to have relinquished the studio, I guess this has also orphaned the cast of their spin-off projects, Exeter Trek and Conspiracy...

It always raises questions when only one side speaks out about things.

The big one I have is that John Broughton was talking about one more TOS Farragut film before they move on to Farragut Forward. If that's still the case, why wouldn't they wait to pull out of the studio until after they'd filmed that one?

Still, I wish everyone luck and hope we get a lot more good fan films going forward.

Farragut filmed "The Crossing" back in November. It should be out soon. Here's the trailer for it:

And here's some info on Trekmovie from August of last year:

"Farragut’s next episode, 'The Crossing' is set for filming this November. This time Farragut will be venturing into the Mirror Universe, so expect goatees, agonizers and all the rest. 'The Crossing' was written by Paul Sieber, who also wrote the previous episode, 'The Price of Anything.'

"After that the team is set to change gears, and change time setting, with the spinoff of Farragut Forward, a new spin-off series set in the TOS movie era (around the time of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan). The new spin-off will include the characters of Captain Carter and Chief Engineer Smithfield, along with possibly other Farragut characters. Filming for the first Farragut Forward episode 'The Present Moment' is scheduled to start next April with new TOS era sets being built in the Washington, DC area."

But Star Trek: Isolation was going to continue on in the TOS timeline. So nothing about Starship Farragut itself addresses what is going on with those sets. They have announced and created spin-off series that would have continued to use those sets. There have been shoots on those sets setting up those series, too.

Given the history of sets and fan films, I would like to hear Farragut's story from a Farragut spokesperson. As far as I'm concerned, I don't know anything but the STC's story, and that's not conclusive.

When asked about Exeter Trek and Dreadnought Dominion, STC said their use of the sets would be handled on a case-by-case basis.

I'm hoping all this means STC wants to keep accelerating its rate of production and use the studio more often.

Just like for regular television episodes, each installment of STC takes about a week to shoot. So even if they upped their yearly output to, say, 5 to 6 webisodes a year that still leaves their studio unused for over 45 weeks out of the year...

Oh and in my other post today I meant to say Trek: Isolation rather than Star Trek: Conspiracy...

Right, it should only be slightly more difficult to avoid a conflict.

Of course, there'll probably be a couple weeks of studio prep for each episode, especially when they have to keep redressing that planet set.

As John said in the Farpoint interview posted, there will be one more TOS-era Farragut episode shot at the former Farragut Studios. Thereafter Farragut merges with Isolation into the STII era with sets in the DC area.

Prior to the STC partnership, at the first Farragut studio, they had the partial bridge and the transporter room. Under the partnership with STC, those sets were moved to a bigger facility, and in the process a new transporter pad and steps were made (the old one was undersized), with the rest of the set reused from studio 1. For STC Episode 3, the transporter room was upgraded yet again with new wall panels laid out more accurately (and painted TOS Season 2 grey). So the only things left of the pre-partnership transporter room are a few wall panels, the consoles, and the doorway (which, as James Cawley has pointed out, is wrong and will be rebuilt). Other Farragut-originated sets that live on are the Romulan bridge and the shuttlecraft (although they are broken down and tucked away).

FWIW there isn't anything left in the sets from Ajax. That stuff was all rebuilt.

As for Farragut Fest, that was how I met all these folks and it will be missed. That said, it was rough on the sets. There were always repairs to do before the next shoot.

So will Isolation be a movie era show too with just the vignettes in the TOS era?
