Star Trek: CAPTAIN PIKE

Not to mention the thing changes color through out the scene.

Pike doesn't express himself like Pike from the Cage, and Spock sounds more like TOS Spock rather than Cage Spock (I doubt very much Cage Spock would have adressed his Captain as ''Chris''). Nice production value is the best thing I can say for now.
I don't want the actors to be more like Jeffrey Hunter, or Leonard Nimoy, that's what shows like SNL are for. One of the biggest critiques I have about STC and NV/PII is the constant monkeying performances from the TV/ movie counterparts. These fanfilms would be better off if the actors would spend some valued time researching, and interpreting the characters which would fit them and their strengths.

Good catch. That implies to me that it's supposed to be some sort of inactive viewscreen rather than a porthole.

I tbought green screen was a more recent development (Wikipedia says 70's), could it have been used in 1964?

1940 The theif of Baghdad was the first blue screen in a movie, in the early 30's composite shots were used

As much as the real world borrows from trek, I doubt a screen saver would even be a fantasy when punch cards were cutting edge , again I see a window shade with lights shining on it as the ship moves

Never said the new actors had to be clones of the original actors (that's Mignona's bag), but they should at least be logically consistent with their predecessors. Julianne Moore didn't use any of Jodie Foster's acting singularities, yet she was as true to Clarice Starling in Hannibal as the character was in Silence of the Lambs, both how he spoke and how she related to others.

Takes all sorts. :)

I liked Robin Curtis as Saavik.
Me too.

As for this fan film, I'm just not feeling it. Pike series is a good idea, as it is pretty much unexplored era, but this just seems bland. The actors for Pike and Spock do not convince. And I'm not talking about resemblance to originals, just that they don't seem like particularly good actors. Seriously people, once you get some money, the first thing to do should be to hire some professionals for the main roles! But this seems like a common problem in fan productions (Vic Mignogna in 'Continues' was a pleasing exception.)

I also really didn't like how much they had changed the look of the Enterprise. Sure, add some details and texture, but keep the overall structure same.

To the earlier discussion about Pike's "window" and bluescreen v. greensvcreen:

1. The panel changes color and intensity, and you'd never do that if you were trying to pull a matte off it. So either it wasn't intended to be a window or if it was it was turned it into a lighting panel before the got to shooting it.

2. Traveling matte processes didn't use greenscreen for film in part due to the photochemical processes used. Green works better for video, plus it takes less light to illuminate than a bluescreen, hence its modern dominance.

Are they still making this film, or what?
They won’t answer any Facebook posts, queries from backers on their Indiegogo page and have not posted any production updates since the 21st May. All perks (except for DVD’s) were posted out around mid June.

The new fan film guidelines must have caused them serious problems. They only raised enough funds to make act one (30 minutes) of a three part (90 minute) film. Act one had been filmed and they were beginning post production when the guidelines came out. The plan was to release act one to entice people to then fund acts two and three. Obviously that can no longer happen, so if they do release it at some point we are only ever going to get to see 1/3 of the story.

I thought if something was under production it was protected and able to be released? They should be fine..... but nothing wrong with being a little cautious. I'm sure things will become more clear in the next few months.
