Star Trek: CAPTAIN PIKE

Glad they met their goal. Hopefully they can do something interesting with what they're planning.

This subject should interest me but I'm not feeling it, unlike Axanar which I do find intriguing. The way it's been pitched is leaving me unmoved.

Perhaps because no story has actually been pitched? it's basically ''wouldn't it be cool to see this, or wouldn't it be cool to see that?''
Contrast with the CAGE: command officer is abducted away from his crew by telepathic aliens looking to mate him with a gorgeous female abductee.
Already that's a lot more interesting...

its all in the marketing... ;) I hope this project does produce something good. it's just really hard to come out of the blue and do a fan film and expect fans to fund you with out some type of experienced crew running the production. This project and Equinox may have some professional actors, but you have to trust the producer and the crew behind it to make a good product. Beyond Tobais doing the VFX, the crew is relatively unknown. Vic (STR) and Alec Peters (Axanar) were already know to the fan film community before launching there projects.

my guess is this is the poor man's Axanar or JJ reboot, I do wonder will Spock be the Spock we know and love or will he be more pilot -like and smile and raise his voice?

That is certainly an interesting trailer! I'm hoping good things come of this production.

Already that's a lot more interesting... than most fan films.

With this guy's background I think it will be more action oriented, with Pike fighting the bad guys with his bare hands and not tackling any modern social issues, other than Pike's daddy issues. I wonder who this Harlan Sobol is that Walter Koenig is playing

But I have to ask where do most fan films fall apart story wise? is it all the "tell me doctor" scenes, the post Next Gen techno-babble?, the convoluted plots? , the surprise ending you saw at the open? -I understand blowing the budget on a name actor, (and Pike has several Trek and other Sci-fi actors0 but when the hook becomes the main thing I find it hurts the story. I mean would blood and fire have been worse if they did not have Crosby, play Tasha's grandma?

Amongst other things I find a lot of fanfic (film and print) is hurt by the creators shoehorning in a lot of continuity references (shout outs) just to show off how "knowledgable" they are. Seemingly everyone knows or knows of everyone else and everything needs to be tied together neat and tidy.

Nobody's mentioned the elephant in the room. As far as I know, Sarek only had one child, Spock (sort of confirmed in the animated episode Yesteryear, unless I'm mistaken... please don't get me started about the ridiculous Sybok).

So where did this young african-american vulcan girl come from? Was Sarek spreading his seed all over the place?

Just because you don't think Sybok counts, doesn't mean the people behind the fan film feel the same way. Of course she's Sybok's daughter.

I found it a lot more promising and interesting than the Ray Wise "sales pitch" video.

Likewise.

I wasn't going to chip in on the fundraiser, since that first pitch totally put me off. But then figured 'what the heck', I can spare $15, and you never know. :)

Good point, so where is the balance of institutional knowledge and not contradiction well establish facts... we know Spock had a brother and he could of had children, Pike HAD to have a father, but in the JJ verse he was recruited by Marcus, but that dose not rule out his father being Star Fleet

:vulcan:

Please don't get started about Sybok, no. As far as the rest of us know, Sarek had two children.

He's canon, whether you like it or not.
