Spoilers Star Trek: Boldly Go Comic Series Review Thread

I loved having the kelvin timeline comics and honestly they are the only trek ones I buy right now.

I think they still have stories to tell if they want to, even without going into the next movie. They could've made a spin off set in the years between stid and beyond too to show us some of the implied adventures the crew had. There is still so much Id Iike to know about these characters and their stories.

They pretty much already did this, though -- everything from issue #21 onwards in the ongoing monthly, plus miniseries like Manifest Destiny and others, are all set in between STID and STB, so there's really not a ton of wiggle-room there that hasn't already been explored, though I guess maybe there's some side-stuff that could happen in 2261, since that year is pretty sparse according to my timeline (the series jumps ahead to 2262 after a time).

I'm curious what IDW has coming up going into the later part of the year, both of their ongoing series will be ending by the end of the summer.
I'd really like to see them do more non-TOS Prime Universe stuff.

They just announced a third TNG Mirror Universe mini to kick off later in the year.

Makes sense, since they've pretty much established that the new Enterprise is getting close to launch at this point in the run, which could push things past that final scene of the movie. There's probably not too many more storylines they could plausibly fit into the series anyways prior to that point.

The novelverse portrays adventures to surpass the TOS five year mission so there is plenty of room for the Kelvin world to keep churning stories between movies.

Technically true, although of course it's still unclear at present as to which storyline Bad Robot and Paramount are going to go with for the next film (the Jung/Pegg version, or Tarantino's pitch, which was allegedly done after Pegg and Jung had already completed at least one screenplay-draft for their version). Like with Discovery, I'm sure that IDW and CBS Licensing are wanting to play things cautiously for the time being, and are avoiding going too far into areas that might get contradicted by future onscreen canon, hence this temporary halt on the comics.

Another big thing that would need to be dealt with is Anton Yelchin's real-life passing, and very likely the different storylines would probably have different ways of addressing Chekov's status in the Kelvinverse, but that would be for the screenwriters to lead with, as opposed to the tie-in writers.

^ LOL yeah, I think the closest we've ever gotten is that short flashback to him and Chris Hemsworth recruiting Keenser on his homeworld.

I'm really hoping we'll finally get a Kelvin series now that the books can use stuff from the Kelvinverse movies.
I'm honestly kind of amazed IDW didn't at least do a miniseries somewhere. I think I honestly would have been more interested in a Kelvin series than the TOS series we got.

I’d love that!

Slightly off-topic, but we got two see the first two Kelvin timeline elements in DSC thanks to the Discovery Annual comic.

Specifically, we see the 2009 military shuttle (or an elongated version of it) and an unnamed E-class spacedock (ball with ring).

We already know both these technologies exist in both timelines because the military shuttle is present at Roylan first contact, and Spock stops over at an E-class outpost in 2372.

Series finale for the Kelvin timeline and a new DSC comic.

I worried while reading the DSC edition because it continues the S1 events. My assumption had been that we’d see the ascension of Georgiou (flashback). What if future seasons overwrite Succession?

Also, am I misremembering or wasn’t Owosekun (mirror) vaporised aboard Charon? Unless she has a twin on the Shenzhou?
