Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

In space, there is nothing to slow down an expanding shock wave. The energy from a photon torp should spread out at the speed of light. So if we wanted to be realistic, a single photon torpedo detonated with proximity sensors should have knocked out half the swarm at least.
Wouldn't the swarm ships closest to the torpedo protect the rest of the swarm from the blast?

"Star Trek Beyond is Star Trek because it doesn’t feel quite like what came before. That’s the whole point of Star Trek."

That's a hell of a quote.
Not sure I buy his assertion that Lin is a "jock", though.

Also of interest:

"this is a movie where the scenes involving everyone standing around and making plans for a prison break are far more exciting than the actual prison break."

On balance, I think we'd prefer this to a movie with exemplary action and mediocre dialog.

Technobabble to "Enterprise" lead. "Enterprise" to the death of the franchise nearly lead. /Joda
Actually, ENT had less technobabble than VOY, probably less than TNG too. You don't need quantum matrix fields when you have Captain Archer being beaten to a pulp on a regular basis!

The scene where the Enterprise got destroyed was so sad. It was like seeing Rocky losing his Title in Rocky III. Just depressing. And dare I say that it was done even better than the Star Trek III "destruction of the Enterprise" scene?

I thought it was done far better. The crew were really wrestling with the ship, trying to save her, getting the impulse engines back on line, all while all hell was breaking loose inside. It's an outstanding sequence, one of the best in the film.

Hmm, or is that weird nebula evidence that the planet and it's system were "moved" to the Milky Way to prevent the material from being used in an already dwindling ecosphere in Andromeda?

UK and Ireland box office: Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s family favourite took £5.2m between Friday and Sunday, while Star Trek Beyond took £4.7m.
Not bad.

According to Memory-Alpha's article on Beyond, Simon sent them an E-mail asking them to create the backstory for an object in the movie. They don't say what it is though. Could it be the Abronath?

The quote

They also consulted Memory Alpha, with Pegg claiming "We actually wrote to the Memory Alpha guys and got them to name a certain device in the movie. I sent them a letter saying, 'Can you come up with this for me?' In two hours, they came back with an entire etymological history of what the thing was. It's beautiful. It’s fantastic to have that support network."

Vernal Galaxy was a part of the milky way galaxy though... It would take 1,000 years at warp 9.9 to get to andromeda so that would seem to be a bit too unbelievable, I can handle seeing journey from earth to Vulcan taking a few hours or even beaming directly to Qo'nos but tracking to andromeda in the course of 3 year mission and having a massive federation base there is too far . I thought the movie was great all the same.

It's not good either. Way off STID's numbers in one of treks supposed best markets.

Hopefully, they will make up lost revenue on home video. Really disappointed that Beyond isn't doing better. It is a really fun movie.

I'm pretty gutted to be honest. I guess it just didn't seem like an 'event' like the first two. It's a shame, it deserves to succeed.

It's definitely the prettiest Trek movie ever. I also like that it is only 2 hours -seemed just right. So many movies suffer from bloat these days. Do we really need 3 hour long Transformer movies?
