I... can't even. You made an entire argument about xenophobia based on absolutely nothing in the clip to support it, and now you're talking about unfounded interpretations, assumptions, creating subplots, preferring simplified explanations, and projecting (all things you did) because I offered up possible alternatives to you immediately and baselessly jumping to a worst case scenario? I wasn't the one making wild and needlessly complicated assumptions about his motives, you were. As McCoy's friends would say to him (and then probably be accused of xenophobia for no coherent reason): Physician, heal thyself.
Lets be calm here.
Maybe I expressed myself wrong, this is a message board and I simply mentioned something I read others saying that made me reconsider my first interpretation and see it from a different perspective that possibly awoke the concern I always had, honestly, that in pushing the Spock/Mccoy banter in nutrek they'd also keep one aspect of the original dynamic that I never liked. If you disagree no problem but I don't think I personally attacked or offended anyone here..
I stand corrected. I don't feel like that interpretation is more far fetched than others. If people find something they don't like in his reaction and the explanation is the stuff I hinted, I don't think it's crazy and invalid.
The way we relate to characters and react to them can be completely different depending on our experiences too.
If you ask someone how many lights they see, you can debate whether there are four lights or five lights, but it's harder to debate when they say they see fish. There has to be some connection to at least semi-reality (even in a fake universe) to act as a framework for discussion. You're just pulling stuff out of the aether.
??
There is a scene that is up to interpretation and I took one interpretation and tried to rationalize it with what interviews seem to suggest is the character arc of the Spock/Mccoy dynamic and thus why it would make sense, if that scene is at the beginning, for Mccoy to be a jerk if the intention of the creative team is to show a gradual change in their dynamic. I only use what the scene showed and I don't assume they are already friends because that wasn't showed to me yet. It seems to me you are saying that your interpretations and, say, emotional reaction to the scene is the only valid one but it's not.
