Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

I don't understand why people don't like having Rihanna associated with Star Trek. She says she's a fan, she's bringing in her fans to see this movie, and those fans might be Star Trek fans. This whole thing of "Does it belong in a Star Trek movie" makes me rebut that question with another question: Does it really matter? I thought that third trailer was great and the more I see coming out of this movie, the more I really like it and can't wait to see it. And this is coming from someone who didn't like Into Darkness.

Again, the whiners are in the minority. The ST:Beyond themed, song promo video I originally posted has 626,000 views and only 11 dislikes.

Apparently, Star Trek: one of the most commercially viable movie franchises in history with over $2 billion in grosses, is not commercial enough for some fans to have a commercially viable pop song attached to it.

RAMA

I just heard the whole song for the first time. That is a damn good song, but the first thing I was thinking was, man I wish this was the song for SPECTRE. Still, I am glad this song is associated with Star Trek Beyond.

I don't like or dislike having Rihanna associated with Star Trek. Simply put I don't really care. I don't like her music, but the song they stick on one good trailer isn't going to affect my enjoyment of it. I'm glad it is bringing in new Star Trek viewers though.

Yeah, it's the vehemence that gets me. It's like being super-pissed that Cheez-It crackers were involved with 2009's marketing.

People don't like Rhianna in it because they are accustomed to the old orchestral score. I think it's a reasonable view to one may hold, I miss the orchestral scores too. But I don't mind if Rhianna does it, the kind of soaring stuff that marks some of her stuff is good too.

As for "bringing in new viewers". I don't care. I do not care. Not even a teensy bit.

It's gotta work for me, it's gotta bring something to the film itself, that's the stuff that matters to me.

I'm still pissed that Mars Candies turned down E.T. and we got those awful other things.

Those people must hate Bond films..

Interesting outlook. I guess I care because I became a fan of Star Trek through something similar, I like the lead actors they cast as Spock and Kirk and went with my sister when she asked just for kicks back in 09. So you could say I became a fan because of my interest in an actor. It's possible fans of Rihanna may go see it just because of her and then become true fans, which means more Star Trek fans which ends up meaning we get more Star Trek, either in movies or tv shows. I see that as a positive thing and definitely smart marketing by Paramount.

I don't see anyone complaining about Rihanna being in the Beyond trailer outside of the YouTube comments section (which is a cesspool of trolls, idiots and 9-year-olds).

Just looking for a pat on the back?
