This forum got a strange obsession with Facebook comments  They're even worse than YouTube.

It's unfortunately the only other place I can get Star Trek reaction. I guess I can go to Reddit and I was there for a few weeks but I found that confusing.

    Understandable.

Reddit is simple once you get the hang of it. I found it somewhat confusing too at first.

I think I understand it but it's the wading through 1000 comments that seem daunting.

I'm by no means opposed to more Trek. It's just not something that features that highly on my calculus. Many great series and shows wrap up after a set amount of time and are never made anew and I'm cool with that. I look for three things from the stuff that I watch 1.quality 2. quality and 3. quality. If they can wed quality with quantity, that's the best outcome I guess but I don't look for that.

Well, this is just my take on things.

After Trailer #3, I am of the opinion that whether on purpose or by accident, the marketing campaign has been a subtle but well crafted exercise.

Each trailer speaks to a different demographic.

I know in my case, Trailer #2 spoke loudest to me.

I know Sledgehammer works for me too.

All three together speak to a wide casual movie-goer / Star Trek fan / music fan demographic.

I'd be very keen to see what the box office tracking will be for the opening weekend when we get to mid-July!

I take back some of the things I previously said about the marketing campaign.

They knew what they were doing and they rolled it out gradually. They were smart and they've got the attention of the general audience.

I have a couple of non-Trekkie family members asking me about going to see it in theatre with me because they think it looks "awesome." General audience types, for sure. I told them I'd see it with them after I watch it by myself first ;)

It's been an effective marketing campaign and I'm happy about that. BEYOND!

Yeah I mean there is a world of difference between "using a recycled cheesy pop song from Patch Adams in our TV show on a network almost nobody received or even knew existed" and "Getting a song from one of the worlds most marketable pop stars, to be used to advertise your new movie, and that is drawing in new viewers to your IP. Love it or hate it this is the best Marketed Star Trek movie yet. They are grabbing attention. Picking up new eyeballs, and building excitement week after week. Teasing just enough. This is by far the best marketing campaign of the Summer movie season. Likely edging out Captain America Civil Wars well executed one.

Compare this to stuff like Sony's assorted Ghostbusters misteps, including todays "Ghostbusters Gadget Video" which just succeeds in making the movies actors look dumber than a bag of hammers.

    Link? I can't find it.

    EDIT: Ah, here it is.

"Sony Pictures Singapore" - really?
Looks like their strategy now is to focus on non-English markets who haven't read all the horrified abuse online.
